Toilet Gurgling when shower is on?

    :confused:

    Hi folks. Can anyone help here. My toilet has started gurgling when we have a shower. Only recently started happening. Ive tried plunging the toilet, caustic soda to unblock any possible blockages and sticking a drain rod down but havent had any luck still seems to be happening.

    Anyone have any ideas what might be going on? When I flush the water can either become backed up and rose up to the top of the bowl, or it can flush normally but then there is very little water left when the flush stops.;

    Your drain is blocked. Unlikely to be something you'd want to try clearing yourself as it's best done by jetting with professional gear and worth the few quid to avoid contact !!

    Caustic soda isn't a great solution for blocked sewers also make sure you tell the plumber you've used it as they'll need to be aware to avoid burns!

    Chemical cleaners can damage older drains as there's often concrete, earthenware or other ceramics.

    Cheers. Was hoping to avoid paying for unblockage but looks inevitable!

    The fact the toilet is gurgling when the shower water is draining means the blockage is beyond where the two run into eachother (which is usually via 2 seperate connections to the big pipe running vertically down the corner of your house). So poking a rod down the toilet wont get near it.

    Get someone in asap cos sounds like it will only get worse.

    If you have a septic tank it may need emptying and the pipes cleared. Dunno where you are but plenty of companies do drain clearing.

    Lift the drain cover outside the house, if it's full rod away from the house, if empty rod towards the house.
