Good driving videos

    Hi all,
I recently had my first lesson and didn't feel it went well. My feedback wasn't great and I'm really trying to keep momentum in spite of this.

I'm struggling a lot with spatial awareness and general steering, especially around corners.
I'm struggling to get the wheel back in position once I've turned.
Possible stupid question but should you start to physically straighten up the wheel while the car is still turning? I feel like I might be doing it too late.

Does anyone know any good online videos for beginners? Watched a few on youtube but there's so many it's hard to know where to start!

    TIA

Firstly, congrats on your first lesson. It doesn't sound like you have a great instructor if they're giving you "bad feedback" - you shouldn't be made to feel down, you should be encouraged and they should be guiding you through everything.

In regards to steering, yes you straighten up the car while you're still turning. If you've never driven before then this might be an entirely new concept and will take some getting used too. But yes if you straighten up to late you will need to correct it rather than just straightening the wheel. So if you're turning left you should only need to turn the wheel left, then straighten - if you need to turn the wheel right as well then you need to straighten up sooner. It's hard to say when you should start straightening the wheel as you will soon be doing it instinctively.

Just practice and you'll soon get the hang of it

You can watch videos all day, there's no guarantee you'll be any better at driving after it though. Nothing substitutes for practice.

Yes you should start straightening up the wheel as you are turning. As Craftylee has said, if you're turning left you shouldn't have to turn right to straighten up again.
Practice really is the only way to get used to it. Some videos on YouTube are very technical and will throw you off completely if you start trying to think of all they've said the next time you get behind the wheel.
After my first lesson I practiced in a quiet industrial estate/business park. There was a quiet road that led out on to a roundabout - great for practicing the steering in particular. If there is a quiet road or roundabout near you it would be a great place to start.
