Family Tablet

I'm looking to get a tablet for the family, probably 9 or 10 inch.

There are so many out there all varying in price its hard to choose a single brand. never mind a specific tablet.

Budget is about €300ish.

iPad mini is a little too small (I think), would love a Nexus 9 but a little above budget at €400.

Any recommendations?

N9 is a beast alright.

Android lollipop OS has a function that you can open an app and lock it to that app so you can happily hand it over to young ones and not worry about them going on anything else.

If that is of use to you it could narrow down the search.

Good deal on the yogo 8 At the moment. If its family tablet id keep the budget low as you might be buying a replacement soon enough !

Make sure you get a cover at the same time.


How many in the family and ages? If you have young kids those 7 inch Samsungs are around €1OO. My 7 year old daughter has one over a year still working great with its cover?


One tab in a family can spell trouble. Just my 2 cents.

Lenovo a10 is regarded as a solid budget tablet and is on sale in argos for 150e at the moment

Has a full hd ogs gorilla glass 4 screen. The only other large tablet with an ogs screen is the ipad air 2. Gorilla glass 4 makes it much better as a family tablet that you can just throw around the place. The processor isn't the best but more than enough for general usage and most games.

Was also considering the lenovo yoga 2 10.1 but the design makes it less portable, also read about some major issues with it.

I've also been considering the Lenova Yoga 2 10.1. Was there any particular reason you picked the Acer?

Reading the reviews on Amazon.de and on forums there seems to be a universal issue with the screen being fuzzy due to a scaling issue, not something you want when you're paying for the high resolution. Many reports of the tablet not waking up from sleep unless you reset it, also restarts itself when left standby for a while. Laggy performance in normal usage seems to be a common complaint too.

The acer seems to be more reliable overall, also the design of the yoga 2 makes it more of a tablet which you just leave in one place rather than carry around. The stand is good but you can just get a cheap case for the Acer and have the same function.

Definitely a good tablet but if I was paying over 300 I'd lean more towards an ipad air (1st gen) even if it is a bit more expensive. You should be able to find one of them for around 350 new.
