How long left on passport is needed?

A few of us are travelling to the UK next Friday (10th April) and returning Monday (13th) however one of our group has just realised that his passport expires on the 19th.
While it will be in date, there won't even be a week left on it. Is this likely to cause a problem? Do you need to have longer left on it? We're flying with Ryanair and I've had a look on their website, but can't find anything of relevance.

It's in date so is a valid passport, shouldn't see any issues with that.

It's fine. No issues with UK/Europe.

If it is outside EU then you should avoid traveling with a passport that is due to expire in less than six months

Will it be in date returning? If so he'll be fine. I lost my passport just before travelling back to the UK last year and Aer Lingus allowed me to travel on an in date University card.

Firstly an Irish citizen does not need a passport to travel to the UK.
Ryanair require a passport as a valid form of ID, other airlines do not.
Check with individual airlines for their ID requirements.

Since you are traveling with Ryanair then maksure the passport is in date for both legs of the journey, which it is based on your OP.

Countries outside of the EU have different passport validity requirements.

For example if you are traveling to the US on the visa waiver program your passport must be valid for the date the visa waiver expires (90 days from when you enter).

Incorrect. If you're travelling to the US with a passport that has less than 90 days remaining (as I did in Nov 2011 for the Thanksgiving w/e with a passport that expired in Jan 2012), they will simply give you an entry permit for the number of days that are remaining on your passport.

    Thank you
    Was not aware of that.
