Evening, car is an 05 fiesta 1.4 tdci,
    Failed the smoke test miserably
Limits are 2.50m and the reading was 8.1m
I noticed after the test a lot of black smoke on revving, rarely drive this car as it's her indoors,,,

Any one throw any light on what it could be? Injectors?

    Thanks R

Throw a shot of soup into the tank before the retest and an Italian tune should see it through.

i agree , go to a motor factors, buy a new airfilter and a bottle of dipthane . throw both of them into it and explore the upper regions of the rev counter before u go back for the retest. best of luck!

What kind of driving is it doing i.e city or open road?

Nearly all town driving with a 15 mile run twice a day, country roads

In the vast majority of cases when a diesel fails on emissions all they need is a 5 minute Italian tune up.

Even when the emissions are 3 times the level allowed?

In my experience there are 2 types of female driver.

Type 1 will absolutely panic if any sort of warning light comes on or if they even suspect that the car is behaving differently to normal.

Type 2 will ignore all warning lights and other indications that there is a problem and will continue to drive on oblivious until the car actually stops on the road.

It seems your missus is a Type 2 :pac:

    lol you are spot on!!!!!!!!

if it throws up fault with an injector we will change it but if it unrelated what do you mean by an italian tune up? hard going through gears?

Exactly yes, a sustained full throttle run to the redline in 3rd and 4th gears to clear any accumulated soot out of the system usually does the job once there isn't an underlying fault.

Yes would be interested in seeing what the logged fault is...

    had retest today,,,

mechanic used a mixture of stuff in the car with very low diesel in it, in fact orange light was on,, told her to put in a fivers worth and drive to test with it...was some petrol i heard but dont know the amount, will try and find out next weekend,,,,,

reading went from 8 down to 2 which is amazing,,,,warning light has still not been read....

thanks for all the thoughts etc.

I was warned against putting a fuel additive through those engines and the bigger 1.6TDCI version. Apparently it an dislodge residual crud in the fuel system and clog injectors. The injectors operate under such high pressure that they nearly clean themselves anway. My old man's fiesta smoked like a forest fire and the aforementioend Italian tune up cleaned it up no end whilst delivering a few more MPG and oomph afterwards, and it flew the NCT as well.
