Passat dpf issue

Low mile 2012 passat has recently started flashing the glow plug light occasionally and dropping power while that flashes.
I'm pretty sure its a dpf regeneration issue and book says it can flash the flow plug light if regeneration didn't complete due to short journeys etc.
Anyway I have a dodgy vag com but it wont do anything on the 2012 car as it must be out of date.
Will a proper vagcom do a forced regeneration or what is the story with these?

I wouldn't go that way just yet. Have you an owner's manual handy? If so, have a look and see if it say anything about going for a drive.

If this has only happened recently, I'd imagine a good drive down your nearest motorway will clear it out.

What sort of daily driving does the car do? If it's mostly short journeys of stop/start type then it could well be that the DPF regeneration cycle is not getting enough time to complete. A good Italian tune up might do it no harm.

Yep its all slow short journeys. I know it doesn't suit the diesel but when people have had a long line of pretty trouble free passats, telling them this one is different and might not suit their short journeys wasnt taken seriously until now.
Reading up on the dpf in the vws, it seems it needs 15 minute cycle time after warm up for regeneration and after 3 or 4 failed attempts to regenerate, it will throw the dash light. This car mostly does 10 minute journeys so it's surely down to that.
I will take it for a good run I think and see does it reappear.

Mine is old. Its from around 2009 and is fantastic for my car but wouldn't look at the 2012 passat.
Thanks for the offer. I will hammer it around for an hour or so first and give it a week then to see if any issues remain.

Active regens also take place when the car is idling, it would surely help if manufactureres displayed a message stating the remaining regen time (but only why idling), one could then decide to wait until the regen is completed if convenient to do so before switching off.

Dealer fixed this in the end.
egr cooler they said. Vw covered the majority. It cost 150 or so I believe with vw covering the remainder.

A neighbour just across the road from me just potters around in his 2013 Octavia TDI (this is his second one, previous was a 2010 model) and he tells me he has never had a problem.
