Looking for work in marketing/communications and thinking of looking beyond UK and Ireland- has anybody any experience finding and getting work in say Belgium/Netherlands/Germany in these areas? Any advice about how to proceed would be helpful.

I'm currently doing some interviews with a German company. Do you speak any languages?

Well to have a realistic chance of getting into something like marketing on mainland Europe, you'd need to speak the local language at at least B1 level. So French, German, Dutch or Flemish then???

Not in these fields, but Belgium has a large amount of English speaking companies, so there's a chance you could get by without French/Flemish

    Have a look on monster.be

Unlikely unless you are in a senior position, in the lower levels you need to be able to communicate with the target audience that is the whole point of the job!

My friend moved to Berlin for work and we all thought he was mad because he doesn't speak German. He's learning now of course, but he just decided he wanted to live in Berlin so moved from New Zealand with nothing lined up.

He got a job no problem where he only needs to speak English which seems strange to me but there you go, he works in software development though where a lot of work is done in English anyway.

Not strange at all, many, many software houses have English as the working language. But the difference to the OP is that software developers have little interaction with the general public in their daily work. Generally speaking it is difficult to find developers, so you take them for where ever you find them and of course you need a common working language.
