I never understand this, people are so full of drink, which is yet to even take effect, that they move onto stronger drinks. I go the opposite way, spirits to start and lower alcohol drinks as I move on.

I change because I just get full/sick of pints. I drink quickly, which might not help. Plus my reservations about, say, tequila - a drink I couldn't take sober - are gone after 10 pints and it's almost "why are we standing here talking about it, let's get them in".

    That's the spirit.

Is there really any point in having a rational discussion about drinking habits when we (probably most of us) are sober.
I go out for a bit of craic with the lads, take the piss out of people, get the piss taken out of me etc etc. I don't say 'I will only have 4 pints tonight' 'I will be home by XX o clock'. I just go with the flow. Some times I could end up drinking more on a quiet night with very few around that on a busy night. Sometimes, if the craic is good I could end up reasonably sober, welll, a lot less drunk. Other times, the reverse happens.
Maybe we should not be applying rational thinking to the fact that after 10 pints, the collective think it is a great idea to get a tray of Goldschläger or drink pints of Crème de menthe (vile stuff).

    The surprise good nights.

The ones where you're out with just 1 or 2 and you text the friends who stayed in to say "ahhh you're missing a classic"

As opposed to the ones that are organised days in advance and end up a bit "meh, shouldda stayed in".

Just to note, 6 pints is the same volume as 10.3 bottles. I know people who will drink bottles at weddings to "pace themselves", but would never, EVER, dare drink a half pint -for fear of looking unmacho

Gobshites needlessly squandering money. There is some weird stigma they associate with ordering half pints but for some bizarre reason a bottle seems ok in their crazy mental world.

if you are one of these oddballs pissing away money just remember

a half pint is 57% of a can.
a longneck bottle is 58% of a pint.

You seem to be confusing me with some made up person in your own head. I never mentioned half pints or bottles or anything so not quite sure why you are quoting my post on your little rant. I don't really drink in pubs, I drink at home and bottles are usually cheaper, hence the reason I buy bottles. You can keep your oddballs and gobshite comments for someone else.

I find that my driving gets impaired after more than ten pints so now I stop at seven or eight.

When I last did drink, I could do about 7/8 pints of Guinness then go onto vodka, I could also put away a few large bottles of bulmers ,back in 08 I drank about 12 of them one night, next day not a bother on me,had a big irish breakfast and back to the pub, thinking back the health benifits must have been amazing ha ha

Lol so much this. They were probably proud posting about all this as well.

Although if they're true and I was their regular publican I'd be happy out. Probably give them a "special" rate on their pints and a few words of encouragement to feed their ego about how great they are for being able to drink so much alcohol to keep them buying that many every time they come in.

No need to be so bitter just because you'd be palatic after a Baby-cham

    :pac:

It depends on when I've eaten also. I can't drink on a full stomach which is why I hate weddings and Christmas parties. Once I have the meal I'm fooked. Ideally I'd want to wait a couple of hours after eating before I start drinking. I could never mix food and alcohol for some reason.

    This.

I have a massive tolerance for beer. I can drink 12 pints no bother. I've even put away 20 on occasion and I'm thin. But spirits knock me on my arse. 15 pints and I'm animated but 4 pints and one shot and I'm staggering and have to lie down. Also at weddings and the like after the meal I can't touch a beer so might nurse a bloody mary or a vod and tonic for an hour.

I always wonder how people like yourself can do that! :pac:

A mate of mine he'd blow away in a gust of wind and I have no idea where he puts his liquor! The other fella I mentioned earlier, the reason I mentioned it was Carlsberg he drinks is because any time I tried Carlsberg it's so frickin' gassy I'm doing that thing all night where you need to belch but you can't so I have to hiss through my teeth. It's fcuking awful!

At weddings I've been known to nod off in my seat after a few beers, wake up and go again :D

4 cans is enough. Can't imagine anything more than that

20 pints. Seriously? Was that in one sitting and did you break it up with food?

    1-5 beers = no hangover
    6-7 beers = mild hangover
    8 -10 beers = bad hangover
    11+ beers = puke + bad hangover

    I bet he did.

Can't go that long without a small bag of peanuts.

No idea! When I was a young ejit, I would have been able to drink quite a bit..like most young people.

Now I don't drink to my limits. I stop when I get to a certain point. No more than 5 or 6 pints. Usually only 3 or 4

I can handle a solid 7 or 8 pints at a regular pace under optimal conditions.

Double figures and we're approaching piss the bed territory

depends on the drinks and the food / lining

It's rare and it's too expensive. Lager/Pilsner just goes down smooth for me but I know my limit. I get full and a bit dopey on lager and start embarrassing the girlfriend and I say to myself "that's it for me". That feeling usually comes before acute drunkeness.

Like I said were I to have 3 pints and a shot of vodka or jaeger or any of those appalling spirits then it's curtains for me.

If I have a G & T on a hot day or a second bloody-mary at lunchtime on a Saturday I can immediately feel the wooly-headedness starting to kick in and even my walk starts to get affected.

    Can't do spirits at ALL!

15x 330cl Bottles of Carlsberg if I'm on a mad one, usually more like 9-12 though :P

Probably 15 pints throughout the day or more. Never get sick from it. Kind of realized I have a bit of a problem now. And I'm a skinny decker. If I can't enjoy 5 or six pints instead of turning into double figures better to stay off it.

It was one sitting. Basically I drank 12 (500 ml) cans of lager at my mother's house over the course of the afternoon and then met up with people in a hotel in town for the evening and put away another 7 or 8. I had eaten lunch before this appalling orgy of lager quaffing began but that was it. The beer consumption was a straight through run.

Don't get me wrong, I was messy after it but remember everything and walked home. It's not normal for me though. I was just in the mood.

Age changes everything. Once you hit late 30s forget about double figures. If you're still putting that amount away then the consequences are on their way.

I almost never drink without eating now. 4 pints to me now is excessive, whereas about 5 years ago I'd have considered 12 to be excessive. Very rarely have more than 2.

4 pints is about my limit these days. Female, early 30s and a size 10 so approaching prime lightweight territory!
