Laser Eye Surgery and stable prescription?

    Hi,

I've been considering getting laser eye surgery for years and finally decided to bite the bullet and go to a consultation 2 weeks ago.

I'd done a lot of research around the surgery over the last few months and my main worry was the requirement to have a stable prescription for at least 2 years prior to surgery to ensure that the eyes weren't still deteriorating as this would affect the success of the surgery.

Anyway, my last two eye tests (which were taken 2 years apart) - there was a slight increase in my prescription. I was concerned that this might be significant, but the surgeon told me that it wasn't and said that if 10 opticians were to examine one persons eyes - there would be 10 different variations on the results. He also said that opticians sometimes increase a prescription slightly just to sell you new glasses! This put my mind at ease a bit but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced a similar concern when having laser eye surgery?

It's just that I don't want to be back to wearing glassed in two years time again! :o

I would really appreciate any feedback!

If your concerned about the advice then I'd advise getting a second opinion. My prescription wasn't exactly stable when I got my laser done but wasn't varying hugely either, can't remember exactly what it was. Got mine done in Optilase a year ago and so far so good, best decision I've ever made. If you end up going to Optilase I can PM you a referral for €100 off, you need to mention it at first consultation though so may be too late if you've been to them already, let me know.
