Anonymous Ireland, ahem, have promised an attack on the Dail on the 5th of May.

    What?

    Can anyone comment?

An attack on the Dail? What are they going to do, burst into the chambers and slap people with wet fish? Actually, I'd pay to see that.

Anonymous Ireland is made up of a group of people who do physical protests wearing the Guy Fawkes mask, which anonymous also use. They use the name and threats is about all, bunch of crusties throwing out a claim essentially, none if very little computer knowledge that I can see.

If they had any credibility tbh they'd have done a slight bit of research into how the network is organised and realise that their claim is ridiculous, in any case attacking the Dail would get you nothing, it's the individual departments where everything in done

I've seen the level of security in some government departments so I don't think their claim is ridiculous per se. However, I think if they had something, they would leak what they have, not announce they were going to do something and risk not being able to follow through.

Departments individually are like any company, with some massive security flaws in place, but still they don't attack the Dail, it's a specific department really to get information they claim to have, or be able to get. Just a bunch of protestors jumping on the anonymous bandwagon imo

Even at that, they would not protest the American embassy upon Bradley Mannings third year in captivity without trial , at that moment i lost interest in Anon's and like wise , I did not detect any great levels of Computer Ninja like abilities .

I Didnt suck ass long enough to make it to anonops I sensed fear at the notion of wearing a mask outside an american embassy in Ireland ????

This is hilarious tbh. They're a bunch of jokers. This is doing the rounds on Facebook at the moment. I'd take anything they say with more than a pinch of salt. I'll reply with the same comment I replied with on Facebook...

"If they can't even use basic grammar I doubt they'll be taking anything at all. If they take any offensive action, the most it'll be is running a script that does a basic DDOS attack. :)"

I was only interviewed back in December for Irish water/ Board Gais the datacenter is nested in Cork and completely VMware Citrix nested . I dont think that the Irirsh water side is going to be defended as well as the Dail or .Gov sites . Personal feeling on it no substance other than the caliber of interviewers and low tech questions i was asked .

If they do manage to pull off quite a feat, will we all be back here on 6/5 showering them with more praise than the English media have managed with Harry Kane? :)

Maybe they have an "elite" group of hackers hired and ready to go on the day. Half paid in Bitcoin, the other half in crates of Guinness as soon as the job is done :pac:

Irish Water is new. There's not going to be very many 12 year old vulnerabilities lurking there. Unlike, well, elsewhere.

Users are not that bright , drive by malwares , drop pens ,.... you know the whole myriad of approach vectors , and general lack of education will most likely be the entry point they would use.

Turst me for cloud ops the Q's irirsh water asked me were laughable . Not to mention they messed up the date and time of the interview , holy show of an operation in Bord gas works building cork city.

From what Ive seen in the past few months, ignorance on part of the users is not the problem, its apathy on the part of management which is. As I said in another thread, one client basically said to me, "Of all your recommendations, which ones will stop us getting cryptolocker?". My answer was basically, "All the ones we have been making for the past number of years".

Agreed. I usually explain to management that convenience and security are on opposite ends of the same scale (it's a little glib but easily understood). The problem is that all too often they choose convenience.

    So this went well :pac:

I was keeping an eye on their facebook page over the weekend, notice it just dropped off the face of the earth on Saturday night!

They probably saw sense (Or were advised on the back of another house), few lads in here had raised eye brows too.
