Tullaroan broadband options

    Hello

My wife and I have just bought a cottage in Tullaroan, Kilkenny. I'm Australian and she is Irish Australian. We are all very excited about it all, but earn our keep and keep in touch with friends and family using the internet. We checked with the neighbours before making an offer to ensure that they had decent internet.

They did with a mob called Premier Communities or some such thing (previously Alpha something?). However, to our eternal regret, after the almost 5 month conveyance we have discovered that they do not service our house due to some trees.

Does anyone know whether or not there are any other options here? I tried doing a search on EIRCOM but it timed out. The broadband comparison sites tell lies I think (saying Vodafone was our best bet, but we know from speaking to them they are not here).

At the moment we are with Vodafone mobile but it is rubbish to be honest and doesn't work so well within our stone cottage.

Does anyone know how to get modern broadband in Tullaroan ie the type available for the last 20 years elsewhere.

    Thanks
    David

Try and find out how far by road you are from the local telephone exchange. You can use eircoms maps to pinpoint it. If you're within 5km it might be worth getting a fixed line provided.

If you use internet for work you were crazy to move somewhere without VDSL or HFC.

    http://irelandoffline.org/map/#/home

Put Tullaroan into the search bar in the top left
Then click Local exchanges on the menu on the left, try to work out how far you are away from the exchange.
    Max 5km for ADSL
    Max 2km for VDSL

Edit: Looks like the local exchange is in an area called Paulstown/ Oldtown
Edit 2: That map also lists mobile provider masts and Wireless ISP

Thanks everyone for your advice and observation of me being crazy. If I find out anything of value I will report back.

I know this thread is a couple of years old, but just to comment on this issue. I have had similar issues trying to get 'normal' broadband in Tullaroan. It is difficult for most people to understand the vast difference in quality and cost of broadband on offer in Ireland. It's also worth noting that Eircom have told us for years that the exchange is 'just about' to be upgraded.
I know people think its crazy that you'd move somewhere without being sure of broadband quality, but we did the same thing assuming high speed broadband would be only a matter of time for everyone in the country. After all we wouldn't accept if another utility like electricity was only available to selective properties or available at a lesser efficiency. The situation is still poor in 2017.

I hope that you were able to find a way of making your lifestyle work and that you have settled in and are enjoying Kilkenny.
