If its exceptional service and a pleasant delivery guy, 25% isn't it? or 10%?
Otherwise they can **** off wanting a tip.

Is there an exceptional way of driving to somebody's house and handing them a pizza?

Well, getting it there in a timely fashion. Being cordial in the transaction. Etc.

Depends how much the company charges for delivery. If it's high I give nothing as I assume the delivery guy is getting a good percentage of it.

I usually just round up within reason .......... for example if it's 32.74 euro, I'd give him 35 .......... if it was below 32 or above 34 I'd give him 2 euro.

I hate those cheeky b******s who give you loads of coins in the change with the assumption you'll be tipping them generously .......... like 12 euro back in 2 euro coins, they get f**k all off me when they do that!

I only tip my hairdresser 3euro and in a restaurant I will tip a waitress. Shes taking your order, making sure everything is ok and can often recommend something on the menu. If she has a nice arse shes getting a bigger tip. I dont tip anyone else:cool:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,097 ✭✭✭stevek93

Most time I tip if it is ex amount say, 19 euro for example ill give him 20 even though he does be fumbling around for change still.

Why would you tip someone getting a delivery charge.

Because in many cases, it doesn't go to the delivery driver.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,644 ✭✭✭cml387

If you can afford to order pizza you can afford a few Euro to the deliverer, surely.

That's an issue for him and his employer. When I deal with staff I presume the employer is paying them. Tipping culture is a bad thing because it gives employers an excuse to treat staff badly

My issue is normally that I rarely carry cash and usually pay for my pizza by card so while I can afford the tip, I haven't always got the change on me. My piggy bank usually gets broken into instead.

Navigating the fact that putting a house number on the front of their houses that can be clearly seen from the road, at night, or even actually there at all is beyond the wit of many people.

Never underestimate how difficult some people make it to find thier house.

Same amount that you give to couriers. The couriers who call to collect VAT & duty should probably get a little extra bonus.

Ah just Mr Pink him, give him a long winded speech about how you don't conform to tipping then throw pennies at him.

Oh there is. According to some documentaries I've seen.
Wouldnt do much for me though-not enough female drivers around.

Anyway I always throw €2 in there. Its polite, and it costs nothing. Well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,434 ✭✭✭Robsweezie

I tip on a regular basis and feel obliged to if there is no delivery charge.

If it's pissing rain, the service is quick and efficient without the driver constantly needing directions and the driver is a nice chap then certainly these are all scenarios in which I tip generously.

If the drivers a dope with an attitude that hasn't a clue where he's going, no tip, no reward for that kind of thing. mainly the attitude of the delivery guy is what I consider the most. If they do that thing where they fish for a tip, by slowly rifling through their change to give me so I'll get fed up waiting for it and let them keep it, I'm not so sure about that. Depends on the amount. I understand why they may do it, just to try their luck. Or just need all they can get.

I generally tip 20-25% for good service and anywhere under 20% for bad service.

For pizza delivery, I usually don't give a percentage of the bill as a tip, I just add on a few euro or whatever change I have.

Not if I've already payed online.

i always tip a few euro, even if i paid by card but sometimes i be questioning why. what do they do that deserves a tip? i've started to tip at subway because i think they deserve it, they're on their feet all day making up the sandwiches for minimum wage. i think of all the time i fcuk about on boards at my job and throw a few euro to my 'sandwich artist'

When I was in university, we used to order pizza or fast food sometimes, by which I mean that we would order in the shop, pay then, go home and wait for it to be delivered.

The delivery guy would arrive about 20 minutes later and hand over the food. He would always, and I mean always ask us to pay for it. When we would say that we had already paid for it, and he would stare at the receipt, pretending that this was something he was just realising, before leaving.

He did this every time and I guess the reason is because once in a blue moon somebody who is receiving the order will not know that it has already been paid for.

One time we hadn't paid for it, and I told him that we had already paid, and he didn't need to look at the receipt that time to know that I was wrong.

We usually gave him a couple of quid anyway. Sometimes we would be asking him to stop by the off-licence on the way and pick up some booze for us so we wanted to keep him sweet.

Just on the percentage thing. Why bother? It will take the same time for a €10 delivery as a €20 one. For me its €2 or round up to the nearest note.

You tip up to 20% for bad service?????

Isn't the whole point of tipping to reward good service? Otherwise you are just paying someone to do their job.

For the record, I generally give delivery guys about €2

The delivery driver won't be getting a bob of the percentage. They probably get a flat rate per delivery. Those rates are unlikely to have even matched inflation in the last 5 years.

2 euro is probably fair enough. I worked indoors in a pizza shop where drivers got a flat rate of 80 pence Stirling, whether the delivery was around the corner or up to 9 miles away. An 18 mile round for 80 pence.

Most of the time drivers lost a few bob on petrol let alone wear and tear on ttheir car
Some weeks they would target the far end of the delivery zone and drivers lost a fortune.

So yes if your delivery driver is pleasant, give them a tip. It doesn't need to be a percentage of the order. More a reflection of the distance travelled.

yeah if you're the type that buys insurance voluntarily or pays into a pension, you have to buy the insurance.....of the delivery wo(man) not adding an extra topping of snot the next time they're delivering your pizza!!

Really better off geting off your arse and collecting it yourself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 643 ✭✭✭scdublin

I generally tip around €2 unless the order is really small...then I'd prob give €1.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,106 ✭✭✭catallus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

If they are quick and friendly, come to the door with the pizza still in the hot box, €1-2.

If they are slow to the house, or if they are ringing me for directions, or if I'm reaching for the phone to see where they are, then they are getting nothing. Even if they are rummaging for my change.

No need to hand any tips.

If he's courteous and gets there on-time, it's not me who should be rewarding him, it's the employer - as that's what he was hired to do in the first place.

It's not as if he has a choice to be rude and late to every customer.

Just pay for the pizza, grab it, close and door and enjoy it - this is a tip for everyone here.

 Then the flat rate per delivery can be seen as a percentage. That poster said it depends on how much the company charges for delivery, if delivery is €3 and he gets €2 then its 75%.
So yes if your delivery driver is pleasant, give them a tip. It doesn't need to be a percentage of the order. More a reflection of the distance travelled.
Would you recommend tip couriers & postmen with the same logic? I imagine not all pizza delivery places pay on the same way some shady places do. I always wonder about the legality of it. Certainly is encouraging a black market untaxed culture of payment.
