Reference Problems

So I applied for a job, was asked for references and I gave them. I know that these people have been contacted and then the company came back looking for another 2 references from courses I did. I supplied these as well. They are now looking for contact details from my college course. This was over 5 years ago and I have since changed career so its no longer relevant. Can I refuse to give them this information and ask them not to contact the college?

Just give them the phone number and address of the college. I presume they just want to verify your course record.

To be honest it is a good sign that they are asking for all these. I'd do my best to facilitate them.

What did you do in college that you are worried about them finding out about?

You can of course refuse, but they can then say that tge job offer was dependent on this information and that as you refused to supply it, the offer is withdrawn.

Exactly this. If you don't give them the information, they will just not complete the application/offer.

I once had a job be held up eight weeks, due to them being unable to confirm a course I did in the IMI
