Nothing. I drove all night from Donegal to Killarney once, ate a sausage roll and drove home

Sausage roll eh? How do I talk a girl into that?

Don't know any Kilarney. Is it Killarney you mean? Would you say that the deficit in your knowledge about such a location is recognisable in itself? That the actual whole pieces of what you don't know are so obvious that, in fact, you could never know?

Did you drive the Wild Atlantic way?

It's a nice town on the edge of the most beautiful scenery in western Europe with good restaurants nice pubs and some of the best hotels in Ireland.

But I haven't a clue what's so good about it...

Go out of the town and it's stunning. The town itself though is a dump designed to appeal to American tourists. I don't know how the locals can live there.

Didn't exist at that time, I bought a brand new KIA Cerato with cream seats and was dying to try it out, finished work at 1am and hopped in it an off I went, back home for work at noon the next day. :)

Did you smear your dirty sausage all over the cream upholstery then?

I go there about 3-4 times a year, and I'd say that the majority of tourists now are European. Hank & Marge from Milwaukee, strolling around town in their Aran sweaters and green trousers so bright that they can be seen from outer space, have been replaced by all the hordes on cheap Ryanair flights.

All the counties on the west coast are fantastic. Ireland be great if we could just rid of everything east of them.

They say that the lakes of Killarney are fair.

No stream like the Liffey could ever compare.

I might ask if that is that why Kerry people are so full of $hit? But I won't, as that would be rude. :P

Apart from the National Park with its lakes and woodlands, the Reeks, Mangertons and Purple Mountain ranges, the mountain passes like the Gap of Dunloe and Molls Gap, waterfalls like Torc and O'Sullivans Cascades, the outdoor activities like climbing, hiking, cycling, kayaking, swimming, golf on one of the great courses in Ireland, the castles, manor houses, the town park, the architecture like Pugin's Cathedral, the hotels, restaurants and pubs, the INEC, the various festivals...sfa.

Most of the stuff is free. Of course one has to pay for hotels or a round of golf, where it probably compares pretty well compared with other tourist Meccas.

Killarney town is tweefully bad. Most that other stuff is outside the shakedown of Killarney town.

The town itself is a bit of a hole and full of inbreds who've been conditioned for a life of ripping off fat American tourists.

Use it as a jumping-off point for the Ring and get out of there fast.

Im going to the bikefest in June. That looks good.

If you could name 10 finer towns of similar size in Ireland, I'd be interested.

It's not Venice, but compared with the Mullingars and Tullamores of this world, it's pretty darn good.

Either way, the topic title is not limited to the town.
