There is no one size fits all when it comes to insurance. Insurance premiums are tailored to the individual as much as the car you are insuring so there is no magic formula or short cut to getting the cheapest cover other than spending some time shopping around. One insurance company could be reasonable for me but could be expensive for you and vice versa.

You really do have to shop around yourself. Everyone has a different quote for their past driving history. I could say that Aviva are the cheapest for me, but a friend could say Liberty was the cheapest for him.

For me anyways, FBD were the best. So good that we ended up insuring our house, farm, parents car & jeep, sisters car and my own all with them and got a great deal!

Google insurance brokers and ring all of them.
    Get online quotes.

Your personal circumstances, age, years driving, home location are all important and no-one can really give you the cheapest recommendation.

My fathers insurance is up on his jeep this month. His current broker gave him a quote of €690. He called another broker, told him that he was shopping around and didnt get any other quotes yet, and they gave him a quote of €380 with myself (novice driver), my sister (full licence 2 years) and my mother (full licence 10+ years) on the insurance too.

It really does pay to shop around.

Mhackett, was the 680 by himself?
If so, you do realise the end quote is actually worse -.the risk is diluted, as were anything to go wrong, caused by any of ye, and the underwriter would be looking to go halves with yer insurers.
