Have a few angus and hereford cows that i reared as suck calves. Have been putting them incalf using angus and saler bulls with ai. Does anyone know how the more traditional breeds would cross with the more muscly continental breeds?

a good few years ago the breed of cow used to be recorded on the weanlings cards. the first bullock we ever had to kill over 500kgs was from an angus cow. he was a big stretchy bullock but not over shapy

OP use any bull you want really, have used aubrac and blonde here on similar cows, aubrac easy calving but blondes kill out better.
Mature cows you can go char or blue, 2nd or 3rd calvers blonde or easy calving lim.
If you want replacements put angus on the hereford cows and vise versa. Look up black baldie cows, http://awards.fwi.co.uk/2012/07/beef-farmer-award-shortlist-robert-parker/

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Put charolais bull on similar cows 2 years ago with great results, switched to simmental last year and very happy with the results. As Blue5000 says if theyr mature cows you can use nearly any bull u want.

I'd use easy calving Salers on them across the board as heifers.

Then I'd probably CH or LM.

Would stock from WHx and AAx cows give an easier finished animal at younger age?

In theory yes, but in practice no, all depends on feeding really. Only ones I found finished earlier is blondes out of an angus x hereford cow.

Think he was 340kg straight off the cow, no meal got. Made 820 as far as I can remember the end of October last year when trade wouldn't have been as strong as now.

When I was doing Continental bulls I found that the one you lost the least on was the black whitehead LM bull. These were from an LM bull off a whitehead cow. In general they came in cheaper than anything else and had better weight gain. Usually 2/3's graded U and they tended to have better weight gain. Not sure if they swamped more meal faster than the rest but they generally tended to kill heavier at a higher fat score. I have pictures of them if i can find them I will throw some up
