Can any recommend a private dermatologist for my 6 month old. I think she ezema. Have been to docs and was given steroid cream. It reduces it but can only use it for a few days at a time and it seems to be getting worse. Can I just make a appointment with one or will I need a referral? Would rather the latter as don't want to have to pay the doctor just for a letter. Thanks.

If you are going back to the gp for the same complaint you should not need another payment... Mine doesn't charge for repeat visits anyway. GP would be the best person to recommend a specialist.

Excema at that age can also be a indicator of allergies btw, so be wary of rashes, vommitting etc after new foods when weaning.

THere are three great and vastly experienced pediatricians at the Childrens Practice in Sandyford Dublin. Not pediatric dermatologists but vastly experienced- try Dr Emma Buckley for great all round help and she is wonderful if further referrals needed but I bet you wont need one. Best of luck

Thanks pwpurple, we have started weaning in the last few weeks so that could be why it's not clearing. Her skin was bad before solids but has been getting worse since, I wonder if that would be an idicator. I rang the doctor and they can give reverrel letter over the phone so that's ok but my doctor is away until the 14th April! Typical!

I went to the Blackrock Clinic as a teenager after years of eczema and little help from various GPs. However, that was a good 15 years ago. Overall I think it's definitely worth going to a dermatologist if you can ( once you've ruled out diet changes etc)!

I had a great experience with the public excema clinic in Crumlin under Prof. Irvine. Waited about 6-8 weeks for the initial appointment and the clinic is very well run with an excema specialist nurse who goes through the treatment plan in detail with you once the doctor has set it out. The consultant was always there too.

I know temple street have a huge list for public dermatologists but it's worth getting a referral from Crumlin and seeing how long the wait is before deciding to go private - as I said I didn't have to wait too long (2years ago)

My son had this when he was six months old and we had started weaning. Google wet wrapping. It was the only thing that worked for my son. Laborious but worth it. My brother is a dermatologist and he told about it. His skin is completely clear and we use parafin gel on him after each shower ( he is seven now).

I brought her back to the doctors as things seems to be spreading no matter what I try. I asked her for a reverrel letter to a dermatologist(private) and she refused to give it to me saying there were other things we can try...... Is this allowed? I am going to bring her to my own gp, hopefully she will give me the letter. Such a stupid system.
