just looking for some advice, after a few years of the father plaguing me to take over his herd number and let him 'retire', i began the process this year. After the Teagasc advisor sent in the young farmer scheme details i went over to the DVO to get the herd number changed. just the same number with my name instead. it actually was a very quick operation, i couldnt believe i got a letter today stating that the herd number is now under my name and all correspondence etc.

I went in thursday with the form and got the letter today. all very quick i thought! now i just have some (prob stupid questions ) for u lads that might have did this.
    1) will the department send out a new flock register or can i keep going with the same one.?
2)same will i need a new cattle/ bovine herd register?
    3) is bord bia book and all that just same? no need for new one? i have it up to date at the minute!
4)i will need a few books of dispatch pages for lambs, will they send these out or should i look for them .

anything else? every thing will be now going to my bank account, is there any need to notify the bank?

    all advice appreciated!

    Hi Dickie10,
did you transfer the entitlements as well, about to transfer here as well, was on to my farm adviser and was told that there was no trading of entitlements this year as it is a reference year and to get a second opinion on transfering this year in case of complications, so was unsure about a straight hand over like your own situation which would be the same as my own.

to make it clean & better for managing your a/c's open a business a/c for the farm, i was told by a relative working in ulster bank that by right the farm should be a business a/c

i am transferring the entitlements nxt week and doing it under a Gift ... ENTER BPS/TEAR 2015 into the search box on the the dept of agri website

When I took over from my Uncle (2012) I just continued with his books & when we got to the end of them just rang the dept & they sent out a new one which I just started using in January this year.

Agree with opening separate Farm Bank A/C .

Lovely to be able to keep the old herd number, best of luck with it all, I'm sure your Dad is proud that you have taken it over from him.
