started edt and then stopped

    Hi,

About two years ago I did three lessons of the edt and then stopped (stupid decision but the instructor was no longer available and I just didn't get back into it).

My old permit has expired but I went to the ndls to get it renewed so I'm just waiting for it in the post.

I'll very much be starting from scratch again because I literally haven't driven at all since then but I was wondering whether it causes any issues with the first 3 lessons being logged under my name on rsa.ie?

Do they get wiped off when I'm issued a new license for me to start from scratch or will then stay logged?

Like I said I will need to start all over again but I was wondering will this cause issues for any new instructor.

I still have my old log book but will I have to be reissued a new one?

You have nothing to worry about. The new instructor will just pick up from where the old one left off. As long as your old instructor logged the first 3 lessons as being done, they should still be listed as complete, on your driver account on the RSA's website. They won't expire. They are logged under your driver number. That remains the same. You don't get a different driver number when you renew an expired leaner permit. The same driver number will be on the new learner permit.

If you change your mind about learning to drive & you let your new learner expire, you could run into a spot of bother once it has been expired for 5 years. When it has been expired for 5 years, any lessons that you may have had, will be expunged from the system and you will have to start from scratch with everything. But as you renewed your learner permit before the 5 years were up, you'll be fine.

The new instructor can use the log book that you already have. They no longer look at it in the day of the test, but its not a bad idea to hang onto it and have the instructor stamp it after every lesson. Even though lessons are logged online now, it is physical proof that you actually did the lessons, in case your instructor drags his feet about logging them online.

    Thanks for the response.
That's good to know. I guess the new instructor will be able to figure out where to go from here as regards following the lesson plan and at the same time refreshing my memory.

Unable to edit but just wanted to add, does anyone have any recommendations for a good instructor (especially for someone who is very nervous!) in the Dublin 15 area?

I was given the name and number of one from a friend but since they are a part of a particular driving school I was wondering do I need to go through the school itself or can I just ring the person in question myself?
