Very Loud Noises From Plumbing.

I live in a flat and from upstairs lately there has been a very annoying noise from their pipes. The Landlord says it's the washing machine over me but I've been here years and never heard this noise before.
It's like a gurgling, explosive roaring that only happens during the day. He doesn't understand when I tell him it sounds like something is seriously wrong. The plumbing in the house isn't great anyway, it's an old house and I get the feeling he doesn't want to worry about spending money when he doesn't have to. It's the kind of noise you can't block out either

No, the house is run from gas which is located in the back outhouse.

What else would it be? I think there's something wrong with the washing machine up there because the noise is unreal, it's not normal.

The next time this racket is on go upstairs and knock on their door and investigate if the washing machine is on. A washing machine with bearings on the way out would make a fair racket alright.

The Landlord told me that's what the noise was but I've not heard it like that before. I'm not going banging on the door cos he'll think I'm complaining.
