I'm feeding maverick milk replacer at 600 grammes mixed with 3 litres per head, meal and straw ad lib....
How long should I feed for? 12 weeks or 100 kgs?
Also I was giving hay but thinking of going for straw now...
    Any other tips appreciated!

Up feeding rate to 750/800 grammes in 4.5 ltr and wean at 8/10 weeks.

You could start to wean after 8 weeks once you know that calves are eating 1kg calf nuts/meal per day. Don't be in a panic to wean reduce slowly over a week or so. At the start you can feed meal after replacer but as you wean give meal a few minutes before and as you finish weaning you will find some will keep their head in meal trough that bit longer!! mix in hay with the straw for feed. Both is no harm straw very good for their rumen development. Not a fan of OAD as like to make a few visits to calves per day. (Im lucky office is at home) Calves need extra care. Vecoxan and bovipast a must for vacs. In my opinion watch for scour like a hawk. You will be pox lucky if you don't end up at least one with it. Have kaolin powder and electrolites at the ready and keep them hydrated. Don't underestimate the cleanliness of your shed. Wet dirty straw harbours diaease. I usually put in pallets under straw to help with this. Enjoy. Hard work but nothing more satisfying as rearing your own the way you want them reared.

The correct amount for once a day, you are messing with anything less, a calf will need to be Approximately 4 weeks to drink this amt

I started using pro- heifer there last week and its proving very hard to mix.......about 5 minutes stirring with a whisk. Just as well I've a trolley and I've only one mix to do! Any tips on making it easier? Could it be the hard water that's at fault?

Met a local farmer loading that pro heifer into boot of jeep at merchants.fierce praise for it.
He said he was feeding a high rate with no problems.the reason he said was a low ash%.he reckons high ash% = calves scouring. He'd be one of these guys who would scrutinise everything before he'd buy and doesn't go to pub.but a bloody good farmer.

ash = minerals, trace elements etc

as with rations the ingredients is what really matters
