Was approached during the week by a lad looking for a few acres to rent of me for a few horses, land is poor, and I generally just put 10 incalf cows into it for a month or two, fencing not bad in it and water is piped from mains, what would it be worth?

For horses I wouldn't take any less than a grand per acre

Not too fast Larry, farming was built on the back of the horse we wouldn't be where we are today without them.

This the horses or owners? Feeling lads on here have more issue with the pikeys rather than piebalds.

Still doesn't mean I have to like them. IMO I see them as parasites

If the land is poor now, it'll probably be a lot poorer when the horses are taken off it. They will plough it into the ground as they will usually run around more than cattle and if they're shod......ha! And secondly they will eat grass down to the ground compared to cattle who can't manage it with no upper front teeth.

Also fellas you let a bit of land to for horses frequently sublet it again.

I know a guy that it happened to and 5 years later they are still in there. Despite having reported to guards and solicitors etc.

Horses might eat down rushes, about only positive of letting a few horses out on that sort of ground

Horses won't eat rushes, they'll just nibble the tops of young ones.

Having a look on this thread re horses and tenants subletting.
Don't know if we're talking about the same guy but heard recently he has finally got his land back having lost 5 years rent due to his tenant subletting.
Tenant is well know for pulling stunts like this.

The best description I ever heard of horses was to hear them called grassland vermin.

Theyll eat them to the clay if there hungry. Seen it with my own eyes.

In general youd be better off having no dealings with the types of lads that have a couple of horses and nowhere to graze. They can be hard to manage.

5 years is a long time why didn't he shoot the horses or sell them to cover rent.

A mate of mine lets a lad put a couple of horses on rough ground over winter (mainly rock and scrub to be fair )
Never had a prob as far as I know, been doing it for years .
