Hoping someone can help us. My hubby was diagnosed with viral meningitis before Xmas. He has had a permanent headache since and has been unable to return to work. He's going a bit stir crazy by now!! Anyway, our gp hasn't been able to treat the headache. He had a ct done in the hospital. He saw a neurologist who did an mri. Both clear, thankfully!! He's going for cranial sacral therapy, which he gets a little relief from. He went to a pain management specialist a few weeks ago, who gave him more tablets. He had to stop them tho cause of the side effects. He's due to go back there next week but to be honest neither of us thought she has dealt with these type of headaches before. We'd love to find someone who has dealt with this problem before and who could help us find the right treatment for my hubby.
Any suggestions of treatments or specialists would be great
    thanks in advance

Not sure how useful my answer will be but here goes:

Post-viral (fatigue) syndrome can follow from viral meningitis and headaches can be a part of that.

That's what I suffer from although now that it has lasted years it tends to be called chronic fatigue syndrome or ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis).

Bright lights give me headaches. Even one bit of bright light into my eyes can give me headaches for hours (and it doesn't always start immediately). So I tend to wear wraparound sunglasses when out and also a baseball cap with a peak to keep out overhead lights.

Noises are another thing that can bring on headaches. This can be loud noises or else having more than one sound source.

Also, symptoms get worse if overdoing it: then one can feel a big like one has a hangover and are more sensitive to bright lights and noise so pacing not to overdo it can be useful for symptom management in post-viral (fatigue) syndrome.

Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately he hasn't had a day headache free since he was diagnosed so can't really take the preventative steps yet. Will definitely keep them in mind if he does get to that stage. Hopefully that'll be soon!!
Thanks again for taking the time to reply. Wishing you good health for the future.

my son had bacterial meningitis but he was only a few weeks old. afterwards we linked in with the meningitis trust he developed long term issues such as epilepsy. U don't get those side effects after viral, sadly the meningitis trust is gone, but try the meningitis research foundation or there is one in Galway arc I think is the name. with pain specialist u have to try a different types of meds until u find the one right for you. don't give up just yet.
