Garmin Edge 500 issue

Hopefully someone can shed some light on the issue below.

Garmin Edge 500, software 3.30 and GPS software 2.6. Most up to date as far as I can tell.

Issue is that for the past two days I have been getting constant auto stop, auto resume messages on the screen. Have reset the device back to factory settings, made sure software is updated but it is still happening. Removed spoke magnet incase that was the issue but still happening. When I upload the spin to strava it comes up fine and seems to have correct time, distance and all other measurements. Just very annoying during the spin not to be able to see correct speed, distance travelled and other such things. Heartrate and cadence are being displayed but at one stage today I was descending at around 60kmph and the unit was showing no speed and then auto paused.

    Anyone any ideas?

Is your gps turned on? The auto stop auto resume function should not operate if your gps is on. If your cadence sensor and magnet on wheel aren't aligned properly you will have issues too. But with the gps switched on you shouldn't have a problem unless you come to a stop. Then.the auto stop- auto resume function kicks in if activated.

Yes it is on and satellites acquired. As I said in my OP magnet was removed incase that was causing an issue. At a loss as to what I can do.

I don't mean you to just use GPS permanently... The point is to see if the speed/cadence sensor is faulty. If the auto pause works ok with GPS only, then you know the fault is the sensor. If the auto pause still doesn't work with just GPS, then the Garmin itself is faulty.

Ahh get ya now. Will try that tomorrow and report back. If it is the edge unit i'm fecked as it is 15/16 months old and warranty is gone after 12 months. I already had the GS10 unit replaced as the reed switch stopped working.

I had a similar issue last year. Unit would auto pause and restart while I was travelling at 30+km/h. It was an intermittent issue and finally on one spin I took off the magnet, wiped the face of it on the leg of my shorts and put it back on. No problems since.

Magnet not as issue as I removed it and the problem still occurs.

Type the fault in to the Garmin Forums to see if there is a quick fix.

Mine was doing that too, and replacing the battery in the cadence sensor seems to have fixed it.

This also sorted the very same issue for me, but only after I putting in a branded battery like a Duracell one. I initially thought I had to be the battery, replaced it with one of those that come on the card from Dealz, and within a day it was happening again. I went through all the resetting procedures and unpairing the cadence/speed sensor but was still happening.

I then went to local pharmacy and purchased two new battery's for €5 and put one of them in and it's been perfect ever since.

Turned off the GSC10 and the GPS wors fine, as in speed etc seems to be ok. Will get a new battery for the unit and see if that works.
