    Hi,

I've a 05 petrol Avensis, got oil today and I'm wondering did the guy give me the wrong stuff?

It's super Lite 5W-30 Fully Synthetic, but below that it reads

    Benzine
    Gasoline - Essence
    Diesel

Is that OK to put into my own car?

Sorry I know nothing about engines!

    Many thanks

5W-30 full-synth A1 spec is the right oil for that car, assuming a 1.8 VVTi.

Just tried the oil selector tools on 4 different companies sites and they all recommended different grades.
For a Celica VVTi they vary between 10W-60, 0W-40, 5W-30 and a few others.
    Think my mechanic's using 10W-40.
I used the European/UK websites for each.

    Seems a bit odd.

Should be 5w30 API SL or SJ or as jou and jim said 5w30, fully synthetic, A5/B5 A1/B1.

The lad using 10w40 probably just dumps it into every car he sees and doesn't know any better.

Oil selector's as good as the one who designed it. And nobody's perfect. ;)
