Aer Lingus back in the day

    All,

A chap I work with gave me a few of his uncles old log books and they have been a fantastic read!! The chaps name was Thomas Fenning.

It seems he flew Lancasters during the war then moved to Aer Lingus flying DC3's, Bristols, F27's, Vickers Viscount, Viking, Connie L749 and then the Boeing 707 and 720! Also mentioned in his logbook were Lancastor Freighters which I assume were post war conversions.....

During periods he flew for Starways in Liverpool on the DC 3 and Nigeria Airlines on the 707, would these have been wet leases? I've not had a chance to cross reference aircraft registrations yet to see but the Liverpool stint was back in the 1950's and I didn't think Aer Lingus were leasing at that point.......

If anyone had anymore info on Tom Fenning I'd love to be able to pass it along to his nephew....also named Tom Fenning!!

    Thanks chaps!!

Aer Lingus pilots were often seconded to other airlines right up to the nineties I think. So rather than a wet lease maybe that was the case. Not only pilots of course, engineers and other staff too. Great time to work for the company. Most of the old timers had great stories about their time in Africa, Asia or wherever.

I remember meeting a highly tanned Aer Lingus pilot at my first class 1 medical. He had just come back from a stint in Bali.

    Those were the days!

It would have seem to have been a superb outfit to work for back in the day!!

The amount of different equipment in his log book is impressive and I'd say it's unheard of today.....
