How to get rid of pigeons?

    Hi everyone,

My boyfriend's bedroom window is facing the front garden, which contains a large monkey-puzzle tree. In recent times there have been a large number of pigeons landing in the tree and driving him mad with their noise (he works nights occasionally and hasn't been able to sleep because of them).

I did a bit of Googling and found suggestions like tying string across where they would land and spraying repellents but I don't know if this would work on a tree? Also as it's very tall I'm hoping there would be something that would work as a one-off measure, to save him going up and down a ladder every time!

Any help at all would be hugely appreciated :)

I'm not sure of this is in the right place so mods please feel free to move if necessary!

I probably should have mentioned that he lives in a quiet cul de sac in Dublin surrounded by elderly neighbours :pac: But I appreciate the suggestion, and I know for a fact he has contemplated it when he's woken up by their cooing at daft o' clock in the morning!

Ugh, I'm such a girl...had to google Stihl 441 to see what it was :pac:

It's a lovely tree and a big feature of their garden, but I think they are contemplating pruning it (do you prune trees?) a bit so the little b***ards are a bit more exposed and might look elsewhere.

You could try hanging cd's on it to flash in the light and scare them away. However the neighbours may think you're gone a bit batty decorating a tree in March....
