Got my new insurance disc - twice

I renewed my insurance about 10 days ago. The renewal letter duly arrived last week with the usual......"please find enclosed your certificate & disc...." except there was no disc or certificate attached.

I rang my insurance company and they apologized and said they'd send them out straightaway.

Well, I received the cert & disc today.......twice. Two separate envelopes with similar covering letters and disc & cert attached.

I'm wondering about their efficiency. Should I bother contacting them or just have a 'spare' disc & cert for my added convenience? :)

Happened me before. Except this time I changed the car about a week before the renewal, so they sent out a new disc (Identical to the existing) and then when the renewal went though, I got another disc (Identical except for the expiry date)

You should return the spare disc. Its a legal document and should be treated as such. The issue is if it should ever be lost and turn up on another car, you might have yourself some issues. Also, it may be flagged as 'outstanding' if anything ever cropped up. Easy to explain but do you want the hassle. For the cost of stamp, or probably even free post for most companies, I'd fire it back. There is no advantage to keeping it.

    Burn it.

Throw it away and forget about it. Just as long as the details (policy number etc) are correct on the one displayed, you'll be fine.

You'd want to be careful there. Some insurance companies want them back. I rang mine and asked, and they specifically said to return it. They seem to need some accountability after all those cases of being taking out policies, cancelling the policy but retaining the disc so as to be waved though checkpoints.

Not the case here obviously but still, you'd want to check.

Disregard what I've said in that case! I'm with Aviva currently and every time I temporarily insured myself on my other car, they'd send out a new disc and never ask for the old one back. Just occured to me that the car on each disk would have been different
