08 Passat Alloys

I bought this Passat on Monday, lovely car etc. Only thing is that all the alloys are marked. When I copped it, he said that it was a fault on those Passats....there were 2 07's in the yard with the same problem. You can kind of make it out in the pics.

Is there any way of buffering these up to bring them up like new? He said something to do with the lacquer?? If it was going to cost a bit, I'd consider getting new alloys altogether. Just think it takes a bit from the car, and really want to get them right. I've no idea how much new alloys are...could I expect some few pound for the old ones then? Sorry for all the questions.
    Any help appreciated.

The polished finish was prone to it. You could get them polished up again or cheaper again repainted.

You might get a cheap and nasty set of Halfords for about that.

I seen a set of 17" monte Carlos on DD this morning which look a way better I have 17" lemans on mine from nearly new and they are destroyed in white worm even though they were never abused. That passat was strong enough money too op.

Got it for €7k cash, which was good I thought. Viewed a few that I could have got for €6.4 - €6.5k, but were dodgy and felt safer with garage.

You'll only get replica crap that'll crack/buckle for €400/€500 new... Could buy second hand genuine ones but it's a mine field whether they'll be good or not.

WheelDoctor done these for my Cosworth a few weeks back,

Ok I might call anyway and see what they say. On another note, is there any way of telling the mpg? On the dash there's just total mileage and then the trip??

Should be in your manual. Usually a little rocker switch on the wiper stalk.

There should be plenty of second hand passat alloys around in breakers, at reasonable prices.

Sorry to bump this thread, but trying to find what size the alloys are. A quick google search said 16" and the tyres are 205/55/R16...does that seem very small?

With that tyres size, the R16 refers to 16 inch wheels.
If you are looking to replace the alloys, you are not tied to 16. You could get 17 inch or any original passat wheels.
I think from memory that the 205 width was The minimum width fitted to 05 on passat. I know there was issue with tyre wear and extra load tyres were fitted as standard with I think 215 width tyres.

Would these do for my 08 Passat...there's 16s on it at moment.

Would you not stick with oem? Always will look better than aftermarket/different manufacturer stuff.

Gonna get second hand vw ones on donedeal if I can.

got a mate that does them for me at €25 a wheel, very impressed with it.
The Ford alloy wheels tend to flake badly, never had many problems with VW though

I think either the montae carlos or the lemans look the best on the passat. The ones on the highline spec are alright too. Don't just limit yourself to donedeal. Search findapart.ie or partfinder and you will surely get a set handy. I got a set of 17's for my 08 mondeo last week for 350 delivered, tyres aren't the best now. You'd need to get a close look at them first though, the ones I got have a few more kerb marks than I'd like, the ones I have on atm have no marks as such on them, so it's difficult to make the transition!!
