    Hi folks,
    Quick query for ye.
I've been signed off sick by my doctor for a short few weeks.
Even though I'll be handing in certs to the social welfare to be paid by them, should I have to keep handing in doctors sick notes to work every few days?
    I can't find a definite answer online.

Does your original doctors note have a return date on it? That should suffice and if you are still sick when that date comes you would have to get another one.

Op employers usually require sick leave to be certified if it extends beyond 3 days. If your original cert was only for a week and you are now out longer than that, your leave is no longer covered by certification and you will be in effect, absent without leave. This may be an issue when you return to work so you are best advised to contact them asap and tell them you will be forwarding up to date certification.

If your employer wants them, then yes.

Remember, "sick leave" is permission to be away from work without prior agreement because you are sick.

It is a separate issue from sick pay.

If you don't attend work and don't tell the employer why, then you can be considered to have abandoned your employment. It's up to your employer to decide whether the will take verbal notification or want a written doctor's certificate (most do).
