Black Flecks in Kettle

    Hi all

There has been black flecks in the water from my kettle for some now. The whole inside of the kettle is actually black. I moved into a new build in 2013 and had had a bit of trouble with my water from the start. The water tastes and smells absolutely perfect.

I dug a well (125 ft) deep and had to put a filtration system in because manganese levels were sky high after doing a full water test. My brother who also built at the same time and is 400m away from me had more issues with hardness and iron in his well rather than manganese.

From the outset (even with the treatment system which cost €1200) white clothes were being badly stained in the wash (tea coloured stains). The guy who fitted the treatment system changed it about 3 times. He said the new system should sort any iron problems too. He also fitted my brothers system.

Now he seemed to be after going bust (he will not answer phone or texts) and I have noticed this problem with the kettle now recently. Toilets are also starting to stain slightly (a pale red colour). We cannot wash white clothes at all in the washing machine as they would be badly stained.

I would appreciate any advice. The filter in my treatment plant seems very clean compared to my brothers house. Any advice appreciated.

Solved it alright but had to replace the whole treatment system from the well. Old system couldn't cope with levels of manganese so had to pull it out and get new system installed which was salt based rather than chemical based. Took along time to solve and black flecks That lined pipes still come through taps from time to time .
