'241' registration number

I noticed a truck today with '241' on the registration plates in the position of the year digits. The truck was definitely ROI registered and I presume it wasn't a mistake made by the person who made the plates. Why would this be? And what does the '241' stand for??...

Was it an Irish reg plate format like did it have EU flag IRL etc? Trade plates typically look(ed) like this, they have a unique number for the dealer, then the county and then the current year, plates below are for dealer 127 in Donegal in 2012.

Yes that makes sense and looks very similar, however the numbers '72' after the county letters don't match any year from which this vehicle could have been registered as the truck was max 1-2 years old
