Thanks for this, couple of questions if you dont mind:

    how much?

    Did it hurt?

What exactly did it feel like? I am very squeamish about my eyes...

    How long in there?

Is your vision totally perfect now or just "better"?

I paid 3100 for my procedure.
The surgery takes bout 10 minutes. I was worried about pain also but honestly you dont feel a thing. Worst part is when they use suction to create the flap but it is not sore just uncomfortable and it is done fast. You wil need someone to accompany you as your eyes water alot afterwards n you just want to close your eyes. I went to sleep for 4 hours when i got home and when i woke up could see perfect no bluriness. I ave 20/20 vision now went for check up last friday

Had Lasik done at Optilase 2 months ago. Takes time for eyes to heal and get to full potential of vision. Mine are now 25/20! Can take up to 3 months for eyes to completely level off. Still have a bit of dry eye but getting better all the time. Fully recommend Optilase at Ely Place and also have a referral if anyone needs one. Go for it! One of the best things I've ever done!

I also had lasik at Optilase in Cork last October. My experience was exactly like that of citch22.

I have 20/20 or a little better now. I think I'm almost 100% recovered but some days there is a tiny little bit of blurriness at long distance. Other days it's clear as a bell but I think I'll need another month or so for full clarity all of the time. I'm 60 next birthday. Best €3,100 I reckon I ever spent.

My dry eyes have improved a lot over the last two months too.
I use one of those eye bags you heat in the microwave and place over your closed eyes for 10 mins.

and I take the flaxseed oil capsules. Something is working anyway!

I had LASIK surgery at Optilase on Ely Place in Dublin about six weeks ago, on valentines day to be exact :)

I must admit I was quite nervous before I went in, but as soon as I got my Valium I calmed right down, and the surgeon and staff are so friendly and relaxed it really put me as ease completely!
As the others have said, it wasn't painful in the slightest, the only sensation I could feel was a bit of pressure during the first machine, but that was more uncomfortable than sore. It was all over in about 20 minutes!
You will be a bit sensitive and groggy the first few hours after the procedure, just remember you wear your protective goggles in bed and go straight to bed after the procedure. I did this and woke up feeling 100 times better!

You get a check up a few days after your procedure, then a week, then a month and then three months. But since I am moving away and will miss the three month check up, they suggested I see them just before I move away.
They really are there whenever you need them, I couldn't recommend them more!

I had a slight bit of bruising on my left eye, but took omega 3 capsules and arnica tablets and the bruising went away no problem :)

Don't forget to drink plenty of water, you'll want to keep your hydration up!

I have friend referrals if anyone needs one, just PM me and I'll give you all the details you need and you will get €100 off your price! It's great!

    Hi all,

I'm getting lase done at Optilase in a few weeks time and starting to get a bit nervous! I was just wondering how far in advance of the surgery do you have to stop wearing contacts. I use daily day soft contact lenses. I have an event 6 days before I'm due for surgery which I really do not want to wear my glasses too.

Also, how long after the procedure where you able to start exercising. I am a keen runner but am worried about doing anything to jepordise my eyes post surgery!

The person you are dealing with at Optilase will advise you and give you literature with the answers to your queries re the contact lenses and also how long to refrain from sports activities afterwards.

Good luck with the procedure...nothing to be nervous about and you won't know yourself afterwards.:)

I have been told that, having dry eyes, I am not a candidate for this as it can cause dry eyes/make an existing condition worse. A reading of this thread suggests otherwise! :) Is it true you can have it even with this condition? Fed up wearing lenses and seeing the effect they are having on my eyes long term.

Well, I had a degree of dry eyes, but seemingly not enough to prevent me having Lasik. Optilase did give me advice on home treatment for my dry eyes and even the surgeon thought my dry eyes weren't an issue.

My dry eyes are a lot better since the Lasik though I followed the treatment prescribed and this may have helped my condition.

I'm five weeks post surgery today. Best money I have ever spent on myself and my experience was completely positive. I also had a very high prescription as well as astigmatism.

The surgery itself is completely painless, the most unnerving thing is the smell when the laser goes to work. I was laying on the table for no more than five minutes and the procedure for both eyes was, I'd guess about 30 seconds max.

Right after I did have trouble seeing and I was really sensitive to light and I was getting those coronas around any light source also. After a few hours I could see well enough but my near vision was gone completely, couldn't even read the phone. My near vision took a few days to come back and my normal vision improved over the next month. I didn't have any problems with dry eyes, but I needed to wear sunglasses for at least 3 weeks before my light sensitivity diminished.

Had my one month checkup last week, I'm 20/20 in my right eye and my left is one better than that. I was aware this was the case before I went but it's not causing any problems.

I'm seriously considering this at the moment but think I might be a bit too blind! I'm -6.75/-7.25 in glasses (6.25/6.75) in lenses. I checked in the FAQ on their site and it doesn't mention what the maximum is. Anybody have any idea or should I just book a consultation?

Best to book an appointment. They can operate on higher prescriptions but there are other factors to be taken into account as well. I'm 4 months post surgery and very happy with the Lasik I had done at Ely Place.

Best of luck either way and PM sent too.

    Hi All
I am due to have surgery with optilase on Wednesday 20th May. I have an astigmatism, but I was still a suitable candidate. I got a 20 per cent discount because I have glo health optical and dental scheme. And I got a further 10 per cent off for having the surgery within a week of the consultation. All told it came to €2950. that's for lasik inralase.
Will let you all know how I get on afterwards. If anyone wants to use me for the refer a friend scheme, just pm me.
    Cheers.

I got lasik done in optilase in cork and was fairly happy with everything until follow up appointment today. Apparently I have some epithelial growth that is I unusual. The person I have been dealing with has gone on leave as from today and now I feel a bit freaked out. They have booked me in for two weeks time but I think I'm going to have to ring tomorow to book another appointment. I don't fancy waiting another two weeks to hear about wether I need further surgery to scrape this growth out!

    Hi all,
It's two weeks today since my LASIK surgery in Dublin and it's been worth every penny. The suyyrgery itself was a bit intimidating to be honest, my advice would be to def take the seditave they offer you! Then you'll be grand! That evening, I could barely keep my eyes open they were so sore, not exactly painful tho.
They advise you to sleep when you get home, do it!
The next day I woke up and my eyes were dry and still a bit irritated, but I could see everything! Btw, after the op, my right eye was way more irritated than the left, apparently that's normal.
They give you drops to put in your eyes for a week.
Piece of advice for anyone living in the Dundalk area, I asked after the consultation if I could have my post op appointments in Newry. There was no problem at all, but they never suggested that option to me, I had to suggest it to them! Obviously from my Pov newry is much handier than going to Dublin, only 15 mins down the road!
Two weeks on, I still get occasional dry eye and my night vision could be better, but otherwise, I couldn't be happier!
To anyone who can't decide whether to get it done, just do it! It's n investment in yourself!
