Topping Up via SMS to 53314

I received information in the post about topping up my pre-pay meter via Text Message to 53314 at the beginning of this month. I followed the instructions provided and sent a text to the number in the prescribed format, i.e. "ei topup 40" but received a message back "You are currently unable to purchase a Meter Top Up. Please visit the Website and check your account or please contact 1850301030 for more details".
I checked my account and all details re payment card etc are correct, so I rang Electric Ireland and they did not know what the problem was! They suggested I try again in a few minutes, which I did but received the same message. Basically, I have tried several times now to top up using this method only to receive the same message back. I have just rang again to be told that I should "try again in an hour".
I want to be able to top up via text message rather than having to log on every time as my broadband at home is terrible, so this would be very convenient for me to top up like this. I am also rather annoyed that in the meantime I have been charged 11c per text message from my phone provider for every unsuccessful top up attempt! Can someone please get back to me with a more definite answer as to what exactly is the problem and can I please top up my account via text message please. Thanks in anticipation

    Hi Purdia,

We are sorry to read you are having difficulty topping up via SMS.

There should be no difficulty topping up provided you have registered your debit card for online top up. Have you checked the premise number matches your Pay As You Go card number also? We understand that you have issues with your broadband, but have you been able to top up online before you tried using the SMS service?

    Regards,
    Aoife

    Hi Aoife
I have no problem topping up online at all, so that part works, but would prefer the convenience of topping up via text due to our poor broadband connectivity. Can you tell me how I find out whether my premise number matches my pay as you go card number, I have logged onto my electric ireland account and cannot find premises number anywhere?
    Thanks again

    Hi Purdia,

Are you logged into your Payzone account, where you can purchase the Electric Ireland online vends for your meter? You would have had to supply the number when you registered first day. It is referred to as the keypad number on the website. My apologies for any confusion.

    Regards,
    Aoife
