There is very little of the course on the FAS website. It's 40 weeks long.

Just wondering if anyone has done it before, did you get a cert at the end of it, what your thoughts were etc and what choice of modules you had.

    Thanks.

I did the FAS FAI one so there was a lot of soccer in it. I finished with a Level 5 Sports and Rec and an I.T.E.C gym instruction cert. I enjoyed it. You do anatomy and physiology and if you've done Biology before then you'll breeze through it. Communications and the Business modules are boring but have to be done. It's quite physical in that you'll be participating in circuits, aerobics and in the gym. Make sure it provides lifeguard training as that will increase job prospects after it.

Thanks for that. I asked solas for more details on a course they were running before and they ended up offering me a place as a result of my inquiry, at that stage I didn't want a place and because I refused I ended up having to go in for a meeting etc not to get my payment cut. For that reason I hate contacting them to find out more about this course.

I tried contacting a general solas email address but they just said to contact my local officer. So that's why I'm here to see if anyone can shed some light on it. I don't think this is the FAI one and the course description is useless, it doesn't mention anything about a I.T.E.C in gym instruction or have any mention of gym or aerobics for that matter. It does like the anatomy part as a 450 hour optional module. Apart from that it says very little of what you'll be doing for 40 weeks or the location etc.

Where are you located? I see that Sligo, Carrick-On-Shannon and Dun Laoighaire-Rathdown are 40 week courses. I can't see anything about the I.T.E.C cert myself on any of those courses.

It'll be a good start at getting in to a Level 6 sports and rec course. You get Leaving Cert points so if your get a distinction full award you can get 400 points. If it's something you want to progress to in college, then it's a great place to start.

If you're interested in sports and fitness, it's a good way to spend your time on welfare.
