Hi all, (mods, please feel free to move this if its in the wrong place).

I was looking for some advice as you are all much more knowledgeable than I am. In the next few months I will be looking to upgrade my camera to a DSLR, something much better than my little canon powershot. With a DSLR I can buy the body and add lenses and bits as the years pass. I also want to improve my knowledge of photography and advance myself, therefore I have been looking for a while and found the new Canon 760d, it will be released in April (Id like something current that will last years). It bridges the void between beginners and enthusiasts and so has great auto features and also full manual settings, definitely it will give the opportunity to learn and progress.

I was wondering what peoples opinions are about the camera, is there a similar spec Nikon for example (I was told sigma lenses wont fit Nikon's without an additional fixings and to me that's just complicating things). I see the 760d as an investment, it has the newest processors, focusing abilities, wireless and has hd video capability. This is the link to the site: http://www.canon.ie/for_home/product_finder/cameras/digital_slr/eos_760d/

I will mostly be taking photographs of landscapes, wildlife and buildings both internal and external....and lets say Im not spending any more than 700euro.

    Hope Im not too vague,
    J

A quick look at the specs and the 760 does indeed look very nice. I wouldn't rush to buy one on release and wait at least a couple of weeks for a full set of hands on reviews that might discover any bug / quirks that may not suit you.
The next problem is after a quick search the 760 seems to have a release price of about €850 body only (i.e. with no lens). and the 750 which is releasing at the same time is about €800 body only

It may be worth looking at the current 700D which can be got for 700 with a lens. Digital camera world has a three way comparison of them http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2015/02/10/canon-eos-760d-vs-750d-vs-700d-9-things-need-know/

Nikon fit Sigma lens are used on Nikon SLR cameras.
Canon fit Sigma lens are used on Canon SLR cameras
So there are no problems at all with fitting.

Cool thanks, pixbyjohn, its good to know they are compatible. Considering that the Nikon 5300 might be a contender too. Its a great article flyingsnail. I was thinking about the 750 too. Yeah I won't buy until they have been released and reviewed properly, should be around the end of April.

Do you have Sigma lenses that you want to use on the new camera - or have some available to you? If that's the case you need to check which fitting they are - Nikon or Canon.

Otherwise, why Sigma?! Best thing to do, if you are open to either brand, would be to just go and try each one in your hand. Look at the settings, the layout and the general feel of the cameras as they do vary and one will feel more natural to you.
