Where does the actual trophy reside on the final match day when there are multiple teams in contention?

I'm guessing they have replicas ready at each stadium to cover eventualities, but does the actual trophy go somewhere on the day?

There's 2 actual trophies, there wasn't 1 sent to Italy this week, they mentioned it on the BBC during the week.

    One is a replica surely?!

had visions of the real trophy in a car, idling on a motorway somewhere ready to head to a stadium!

Most competition trophies would have 2, 1 that'd be kept in the HQ of the organisers and the other that given to the team, handy in case it needs repairing or anything.

Yeah, Wales weren't happy that if they won they wouldn't get the trophy until tomorrow.

Good call 6N official on that one.

The trophy normally handed out to the tournament winners is in Twickenham and the replica kept in HQ is in Murrayfield

Absolute sensational. Sometimes I think people can be far too complacent and arrogant with our rugby. They don't appreciate just how great an achievement it is to win a 6N against the might of England and France, and against Wales, whose national game is rugby. Well, watching the English fas today really nailed home how important and big the game is to them, and we beat them and retained the title. Epic is an understatement!

Yeah, premier league has three trophies, one resides (or used to reside) in match of the day studio.

Most tournaments have 2 or 3.

England and France are incredibly incompetent. Both act like they're in some kind of permanent transition period then wonder why they can't see anything through.

I think you're being overly harsh there, with their pick you'd expect them to win every week, but their clubs are far too strong and they have too many foreign players in key positions.

Having so many players to pick from means that it's difficult to get players to get used to each other, I think England had 10 clubs represented today, Ireland had 5, I'd imagine Wales, Scotland and Italy had something similar, in the amatuer days having players not playing together wouldn't have mattered as generally there was only 4 games a year anyway, now it makes a huge difference.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to see the new trophy, hopefully I'll get a picture with it that I can put with last years one

I'm almost positive that there are 2 Liam McCarthy's and Sam Maguires as well, 1 nice shiney 1 to be presented at the end of the game and left in a nice glass box in Croke Park and another 1 that is sent off to every wedding/prize giving/pub opening/etc. in the victorious county for the following year, the victorious team has to pay for any repairs that have to be made to the trophies as well I think.

    Wonderful day for Irish rugby.

Congrats to all involved , The team , coaching staff , Joe Schmidt.

It's wrong to single out anybody but Paul O Connell is just amazing.

    What a captain.

I'm 50 yrs of age and I don't think I'll ever see his likes again.

Fairly sure for most major trophies there are 2 versions of it. One to sit pretty in the HQ and one to give to the winning team. Sure Leinster have 3 'Heineken Cups' sitting in their office in UCD.

Talk about ruining and pis%ing on a magnificent day for the country. England, home of rugby with so so many to choose from, France pretty much the same, and that's the best you can come up with.

England and Ireland are the two best teams in the competition, and there's not much between them. Wales are just an awesome outfit, what they pulled off against us and then Italy is nothing short of legendary. France also proved today that they still show glimpses of that flair.

There is nothing between the top 4. Winning these things is just so bloody difficult. Yesterday showed that. I don't think any team will see a grandslam for years...

Well there were certainly several Heineken Cups.....and they would need them....certainly one of them would get a right kicking around, being brought on buses, to schools, clubs etc.
