Some here will be familiar with Christop Strasser, Race around Ireland winner and 3 times RAAM winner, he's making an attempt on the 24hr world record at the moment at a disused airfield near Berlin, currently about 7hrs in and 280km ish done at an average speed of 40.2km/hr, it's astonishing what this man can do.

Updates here, (I'm seeing it in English but I think google may be translating it for me..)

Wikipedia tells me that the record he need to beat is 871 km set by Andy Wilkinson (UK) in 2011.
Some man is Strasser - remember reading about him doing Race around Ireland & RAAM.

With 4 and a half hours to go he's at 740km, if he can keep up his current average speed of 35km/hr he'll do it but if he slows at all it'll be tight.

I think he is going to beat that record. The man is a beast, although his average has slowed he is on target for exceeding 900km in the 24hours.

    Time Records
    24 Hours
    513.65 miles/855km
    20-Jul-13
    Ultan Coyle

According to CI website that is the Irish record for 24hr. Not to shabby.

I think a lot of people can function for 24hrs, on a once of basis without sleep, Strasser's real strength is he can do it day after day.

Not working for me either. Probably doesn't make for great viewing anyway.

Still on target, but it is going to be closer than I thought with 3.50hrs now to go . If he maintains no worse than the same rate of decrease in his average speed as over the past 4 hours he will finish with around 885km......
Where is the calculus expert when you need one.....

Jesus that is insane. Does he stop to eat at all? Or all eating on the bike? Natural breaks? That is a mental, incredibly impressive but inconceivable average speed without a break over 24 hours. 38kph+ for 24 hours? Wow. Animal.

He has stopped, but only for a couple of minutes maximum. For the first 12 hours, he spent only 4 minutes off the bike.

Also, happy to say he broke the record with over an hour to spare. His total distance was 895km

Yes and no, he can snort coke or speed every other lap but they will check his pockets once in a while.

Does he have to stop while they check or do the doping police cycle alongside him and reach into his pockets en route?

Good question, I'd be interested to find that out.

Did a little research myself, couldn't find out anything. Asked Cosmo Catalano, this is what he was able to find
