    Hi all,

Am in the market for a telehandler. Have my eye on 2 machines, a JCB and a Manitou.

The JCB is a a year younger but has more hours than the Manitou.

Does any one have experience with the above? Regular problems, etc?

Jcb would be regarded as a good machine, nothing special not many bad points kind of machine...
Traded in an 07 530-70 with little over 7k hrs in, 'reasonable' condition as had a very hard early life hauling seed/fert/water etc which knackered transmission. Found the pump getting slower and slower which needed lots of revs to keep up and in turn lots of stamping on the brake raiseing boom up next to a trailer eg. which could cause front axels oil to burn out. Few annoying things like that with that machine not all in general kind of gave poor impression.
Get a mechanic to look over maybe, especially gear box transmission as if money needs spendng here it's like opening flood gate.

Occasionally borrow a 741-70 which is ok to drive much better boom controls but a little fiddely on the electrics/transmission controls.
Got a kramer/claas now which is an absolute weapon need to do alot of work to justify

Manipoo are muck. Neighbour has one almost new and it's constantly in bother.

JCB are much better but transmission and axles are soft.

    Prefer a Volvo shovel myself.

They have axle, hyd pump, turbo and many more. Thermostats are impossible to keep in them. They should be called Manipoo Lego

These are a savage little loader. Good grunt and you'd swing her around on a Penney. Very low exit entry into cab, it is very easy on the body when your getting in and out all day. Good lifting power ect. And a hitch on the back.

They are not overly big but would be plenty for most farmers. If you need allot of power and size jcb or Volvo as said above is your man.

Don't keep me to that as I've a poor memory and it's months since we hired it.

Biggest model of previous range, got a 7055 here. Much easier to use as switches are a little better placed, have a 3ton/2.5 in real world bucket and plays with it. Big thing over old loader was boomed out with old loader were nearly worried of it falling forward in a strong wind when filling with seed in to drill where as now just laughs at it with 2 1ton bags on.

Can't say that I've driven it but anyone on farm that has, have good words to say for it. I find the blindness of the rhs annoying and it's hard for an old fart like me to change from an articulated shovel.
A merchant at home had 33k hrs on a Volvo shovel from new with just injectors and brakes being the only issues.
You got to admire reliability like that.

Not to play devils advocatebut when folk go on oh they don't make them like they used to!
I presume that loaders atleast 15-20 years old, and not hamstrung by modern build regs? Industrial kit is always tougher mind.

Ah yes it must be 20yrs or more. Modern regs are the ruination of kit.

Thanks for all the feedback, its really appreciated.
I will not be doing much work with it, I work off farm 4 days a week.
Basically i need something that is reliable, and will start every time with out any bother, and will do the work i need. Load grain, move bales, lift fert and seed etc.

Do you need a telescopic? Volvo 60 series are a great machine but not a big fan of the control for the loader on the older ones. The multi function joystick on the new models is a thing of beauty.

A local feed mill had a JCB and a Manitou, both side arms. I once asked which was preferred . The Manitou was a nicer machine to drive , but gave a lot of trouble. 3 hyd pump drives in 4 years. It was the newer machine by 3 years. I would imagine that they are on finance , with 1 changed every 3 or 4 years. Well the older JCB was kept, and the 4 year old Manitou was sent on its way, to be replaced by a new JCB in 131. Older JCB has a Perkins under the bonnet, newer one Jcbs own engine. Seems to need more revs, and hence harder on diesel. But that may be all down to emission controls. They wouldn't entertain another Manitou.
I buy straw from a man who had an older Matbro. He decided to upgrade. Had a 09 Manitou out on demo, in 2013. He sent it back , as in his opinion it had more problems than his 97 Matbro. He bought a JCB afterwards.

Yep, some of my sheds are low, and a normal loader wouldn't fit in.
I will stay away from the Manitou.
Thanks again for all your help, going JCB shopping in the morning!! :D:D
