Lads, drivers window is jammed half way down. When you press the button either way it moves a tiny bit but that's it. Other three windows working okay. I've a suspicion its sand because I was down on the beach a couple of times recently with sand blowing all over the place and it has been squeaking a bit. Could it still be an electrical gremlin though given that its an old Renault?

    03 Laguna

I've tried that with WD40 Kev. No joy so far.

Take of the door card, press the button, see what you can see, report back. You may see something having the runner, but you'll also be able to apply the lube more directly (sorry, I'm assuming here y you just sprayed it down past the window seal)

Most likely one of the cables broke and then part off it got 'bundled up' and jammed in one of the pulleys or in the motor.

Cletus, I'll do as you say first thing.

That doesn't sound good Dooroy. Is possible it could be the fuse? Could I take the fuse out and reset the system and see how that goes?

Doubt it, if it was the fuse it wouldn't work at all. Take a pic once you've the door card off and stick it up. Also,I wouldn't use wd40 to lube the mechanism

Have seen a number of them fail in this way - either the cable breaks completely or else some of the wires that make up the cable break in a rusty section and jam up the works .
You get a slight movement in either direction - but thats it .
If fuse was gone the motor wouldn't make any attempt to work.
And it wouldn't be advisable to make too many attempts to get the motor to move it up or down - if the linkage is jammed as I suspect it wouldn't be good for the health of the motor

As said, remove card and have a look. If window moves a bit it sounds like motor works but there is something jamming it. With card off you should be able to see what the story is and lube it up.

Lads it needs a new regulator. E172 all in.

Just hope nothing much else shows up in the NCT :)

    Redirected from the main Board:

Had NCT today and a CV boot needs replacing. Garage told me the part is only e15 but it'll take 3 and a half hours to do it so total cost is e165 but he'll do it for e150.

I'm guessing some boots are harder to replace than others guys?

wow thats steep car and model is??

I think he said it was an 03 Laguna.
Was it an inner or outer boot ?
Some are now using a 'stretch' boot which can be fitted without removing the CV joint - and they are very successful , and very quick .

He asked me that but I didn't know. The NCT report just says offside boot failed.

They're good lads where I go so I'm sure its genuine. It must be a hoor to get at I'd say.

some renaults have plastic boots and might have to be fitted with halfshaft out of car in vice and stripped down,if it was an ordinary rubber cv boot possibly e40 fitting + boot and vat.
