    Dia daoibh a chairde,

An bhfaca sibh an alt seo san Irish Times inné?

    irishtimescom/culture/our-first-language-now-languishes-somewhere-between-salsa-dancing-and-ultimate-frisbee-1.2145379
Tá Seachtain na Gaeilge orainn. Or rather, bhi sé. Our two-week national celebration of the Irish language actually ended on Tuesday. But if you happen not to be either a biddable school kid, or an adult whose public-sector job requires paying occasional lip service to the language, odds are the event bypassed you entirely.
As a Gaeilgeoir, I derive no particular pleasure from admitting this. But as minority pursuits go, our first language now languishes somewhere between salsa dancing and Ultimate Frisbee, in terms of its popularity amongst the general populace.

De réir leis an t-údar, theip ar Seachain na Gaeilge agus níl aon rud á dhéanamh ag an rialtas faoi.

Chomh maith le sin, deireann sé tá daoine áirithe (na "vested interests") sásta leis na bpoilisí Gaeilge atá ann faoi láthair agus labhríonn sé ar an breis is €1bn a chaithtear ag an rialtas gach bliain chun an teanga a chur chun cinn.

Cad a cheapann sibh? An bhfuil an teanga chomh marbh sin agus an bhfuil Seachtain na Gaeilge ag meath?

Níl fios agam gur 'theip' ar Seachtain na Gaeilge, ach aontaím nach bhfuil an phlean ag oibriú..

Ní aontaím leis an 'breis is €1bn' ach an oiread - de réir mar a chuimhním tá formhór ag teacht ón chostas oideachas. Tógtar an buiséad iomlán oideachas atá roinnt cothrom idir gach ábhar.. Ach má faigheann siad réigh leis an ábhar Gaeilge amárach ní thitfidh an chostas síos ~€1bn mar tá chostas ag baint leis an foirgneamh, an scoil srl srl..

Tá athbheochan ar súil (na Gael Óga, Gaelgáirí, srl) ach tá fadhb ag an teanga. Dar liom níl seans ar bith go néireoidh leis an straitéis 20-bhliain. Ní úsáidtear í go forleathan. Tá dhualgas orainn mar Gaeilgeoirí an teanga a úsáid chomh minic is féidir. Is é sin an t-aon slí chun deireadh a chur leis an nós go bhfuil sé aisteach an teanga a úsáid.
