Live wire from gas boiler to control panel

    Hi all,

I had a modern Vokera condenser boiler installed in 2008 which I recently had serviced. It was the first time this particular gas boiler service company had done the service (usual guy wasn't available) and they really did an excellent professional job - I got the recommendation for them from here.

The engineer who did the service advised me that a live wire which should have been run from the boiler to the control panel at installation was missing and I should get an electrician to run it.

I'm about to do that but before I do I'd appreciate it if someone could explain what the live wire does and how has it's absence been affecting the operation of the boiler system over the last 7 years so I can explain to the electrician exactly what needs doing and why.

    Cheers.

Its a permanent live and its purpose is to facilitate boiler functions such as fan and pump overrun , pump anti seizeb, frost protection etc .

Saw David Attenborough film one a while ago, but it turned out to be the more common Yeti. :)

I was going to say this . If your working on boilers and cant put a wire into one, then you shouldn't be working on them in the first place.

Can you pass the RGI without being capable of doing this?

. You have to wire an s-plan system during your GID . What we are talking about here is wiring the minimum of wgat a manufacturer looks for. Imo if an "rgi" cannot do at least that , then he shouldn't be working on an appliance .

I have to do this next week on a boiler that a RGII servicing it told the customer and to get a sparks in.

In fairness he copped it but why he didn`t do it I do not know.

A rgi is a joke to a certain degree, pay a fee do a mens shed type course and become a member of a so called exclusive club.

No arguement here. When it's easier for a taxi-man to become a gas fitter , than the other way around , then you know there's something not right.

I would also say he hasn't a clue.

What is most likely wrong with the ops boiler is the boilers permanent live is being switched, another wire to connect to god knows where is unlikely.
The volt free link should be used for switching on/off.

Just on that has anyone else seen the taxi going around South Dublin with the rgi stickers on it?
Thought the lads where winding me up until I saw it myself
