Two grand id say-do you have herd number? SIM would likely be dearer, quieter, and bigger frame, but not as hardy imo. If ya want an auld one of 10 years old, usually alot cheaper

1700-2000 I'd say. Was going to buy a few myself because we culled a lot of cows last year and are a bit back in numbers but I couldn't justify the money they are making at the moment.

Would it be better wait another while and maybe look to pick up something over the Summer? In same position myself. Would love to buy one or two but not at that kind of money.

Edit: Couple of sales of interest oming up in Ennis. 26th March commercial breeding heifers.
31st March entry includes 21 in calf heifers.

I dunno to be honest. I can't see them getting any dearer than they are at the moment anyway. Went to Ennis last Monday for a look and I couldn't see any value in them. Heifers aren't cheap at the moment either. I don't really like buying cows but I only have 6 heifers for bulling this year, could do with twice as many.

While these sales might be full of good stock there will be twenty men hoping for the same animals. You'll pick up nothing handy at these. I seen a ten year old cow with a very average calf make 2100 recently. If you hold tight you'll pick them up later in the year for easier money.

Ya these special sales are always mad money, especially at this time of year. You will pick them up handier at regular marts, but you'll spend a lot of long days with very few suitable ones to choose from.

That's also part of my problem....going to the mart is a day off work and saturday marts not much better as that is the only day I get to get a bit of work done. Might suit better to get in touch with decent breeders who are local enough and buy direct.

I dont know this lad or never bought from him but from his adds on DD i always thought when I want a few id call him. Think from previous adds he says he is Bfr dairy ma that brings beef heifers to calved 2+yr olds and sells.
He always has a few adds on DD,

Drove a good hour and a half to buy 'homebred' heifers in calf to five star Limousin bull off that donedealer when I got there turned out to be heifers bought in from different marts recently, not the weights in my opinion that they were advertised as and hadn't a clue if the bull was easy calving and what type of calves he was having, why waste peoples time telling pure and utter lies
