AO Revenue 2015 vacancies

    I actually posted about this on the massive AO Revenue thread the other day, but also got no replies so here goes!
    I am not an accountant, or anything like it, but I do meet the educational criteria. I am currently an EO elsewhere in the Civil/Public Sector.
    I believe I can demonstrate the competencies but my concern is that I am not an accountant, and surely private sector people with industry experience would be the preferred profile for this?
    Also, how likely is it that there will be an aptitude test for this campaign, or will they likely short list based on CV content/competencies? (I wouldn’t fancy my chances in aptitudes but would be confident at interview).
    Are most AO’s in Revenue accounts/auditors or a mix of that and EO’s/CO’s promoted from elsewhere?
    I assume these roles wouldn’t be call centre-esque roles where you deal with customers one to one all day on the phone?
    My understanding would be that you’d be researching/investigating etc, doing work for HEO’s/AP’s?

    Administrative Officer (Compliance)
    Positions at this level offer graduates an excellent opportunity to build careers in taxation and to experience a wide variety of work in Tax and Customs, including audits and compliance, risk analysis, researching and advising on interpretation of tax and customs law and practice and supporting the implementation of tax policy.


    Job spec states 'graduates' so I assume you'll need a qualification (level 8 min) in Tax or compliance or accounting....that's the way it is for ICT anyhow.

    As for aptitude testing...I applied last three years, got interview on each occasion..but had to withdraw last year pre interview...so I'd imagine there wont be testing this year just severe shortlisting based on information on application form.

    Yes he does work in that role. Its in compliance and they are great to work for plus he is an associate of the Irish Taxation Institute.

    Three years this November in the position. He has alot of face to face meetings with business owners and obviously has a target to reach in terms of money he brings in. He has met those targets and exceeded them.

    I am a TCO in Revenue myself and it has been a great experience. Sadly that ends this friday.

    I doubt very much he has a target for yield.

    Number of audits/interventions yes, and broad expectation of yield, but not a hard target...

    OK...gonna start concentrating on this now.
    Twice in the past I've reached interview / presentation...did very good interviews and presentations as far as I thought but failed.
    I had to withdraw from interview last year due to a personal matter conflicting with interviews.
    So...would really love to know what there're after here exactly?
    Are they concentrating on say development skills, networking skills, PM skills?
    Anyone have an insight into actual role performed on a day to day basis by Revenue AOs?
    Framing my application will dictate the direction the interview goes...

    This is for AO ICT ..

    I've gone for the Compliance.

    I'm already an EO in the Civil Service, so here's hoping. I have my application sent in already, happy with the examples that I gave.

    My main issue is with the Interviews in these compotitions, I alway mess them up.

    I think this time around it'd be simpler for everyone if the thread was split into two separate ones - the 2 roles have nothing in common except the employer.

    I can't give any advice re an ICT competition and it's frustrating reading through posts that have nothing to do with the competition I can offer an insight into...

    The Compliance roles will, unsurprisingly, be wherever auditors have retired and need to be replaced...

    So some of the smaller offices might get none, or maybe a couple, the bigger offices in the cities a few more, and easily 30-40% of the roles will be in Dublin and surrounds...

    This puts me back in the running so, Dublin wouldn't be an option for me. Waterford, Kilkenny or Dungarvan would do me.

    It's been well over a decade since I filled out any of these application forms or applied for a job, had one til June last year, so I am well out of the loop!! Anyone know if there's anywhere to get help in filling one out, I'm not fantastic at transcribing words onto paper, numbers are more my thing! Have never worked in Public Sector before either.

    I rang revenue and they said the compliance jobs would be mainly in dublin but there might be some in the country.
    If the starting salary is 29k and you get an increment every 15 months would it take 15 years for your salary to go up 12 places on the salary scale to the max if 58k?
    Do the scales increase with inflation or would you be earning 58k in 2030 if you were still in this job?
    Do you have to pay a pension out of the 29k?
    What would the monthly net pay be approximately for standard single person?

    There will definitely be positions around the country - it's a national organisation, they're losing staff to retirement all over the country.

    Increments are annual (subject to satisfactory performance) - Haddington Road imposed a 3 month delay for a couple of years but that's on its way out next year.

    No-one can tell you what will happen with pay scales in the future - they're currently well below 2008 levels, and things will get interesting in the next 18 months as the public sector unions go looking for restoration of the cuts... the AGSI are already getting up on their soapbox for example.

    You have to pay the PRD out of your 29k - it's a "pension related deduction", but not actually a pension contribution, which you will also have to pay. Still good value, if you are going to get a defined benefit pension of half your career average salary.

    There are various calculators out there to tell you what the monthly net for a public servant earning 30k gross will be. However, if you can't actually find the info and do the calculation yourself, I'd strongly suggest this isn't the job for you... ;)

    Public servants pay 6.5% pension conts PLUS the PRD pension levy.

    Civil servants pay less pension conts PLUS the PRD pension levy.

    Somewhere between 0 and 500.

    They'll probably put between 35 and 50 on a panel - based on recent competitions - and they'll all get an offer during the 2-year life of the panel. Whether they all get a location that suits them would depend on their own circumstances...
