Great show. One of the first shows that got me listening to the radio. Tubs was still funny, and he had a great banter going with the sports presenter (-- was his first name Chris?), and with Avril Hoare who regularly read the news during those hours.

I don't think I've listened to 2fm since. Switched to Morning Ireland when it ended.

Sports guy was Shane O'Donoughue. Whatever happened to him? I think he did some sports coverage (Golf) with the BBC but I haven't seen him in ages.

What's was the direct replacement, in fact what was the series of nonsense that's led to the current incarnation... Hector was before breakfast republic? Colm and Jim Jim in there too?

That's right ! Rick & Ruth took over from Tubridy, 6 months later Marty Whelan replaced them and he was replaced by Colm & jim Jim about 18 months later

Kate Eagan, or some Johnson girl, I think was the news reader.
He also had Catriona McFadden doing the paper review.

It was a great show and has never even been close to replaced.

What were the circumstances of its ending by the way ?
I know Tubridy moved to Radio 1 but was that because someone on Radio 1 left ?

He went to Radio 1 to replace Marian Finucane on the 9 - 10 a.m. weekday slot when she moved to weekends.

I was a big fan of the show but can't now stand Tubridys current show on Radio 1.

What did people switch to when it finished? I switched to Ian Dempsey.

Yes, Kate Egan was one of the newsreaders, but she was absolutely no craic. Tubs would try get a chat going with her, and she'd reply in stiff monosyllables. I'm pretty sure it was Avril Hoare (name always stuck out...) or someone else who was the 'fun' newsreader. The AA girls were good too.

There was also an ubiquitous producer/broadcast assistant called Penny whom I don't think was ever heard on radio.

And does anyone remember who did the soaps review? She was from Dundalk, I think.

I didn't really listen to the show so didn't realise this, but it doesn't surprise me for some reason

It was a decent show ,I remember listening to it on the drive to work. Hard to believe it's 10 years since it finished.
