Pulled over for driving in a bus lane. How much is the fine?

    Hiya,

So I know I shouldn't have driven in the bus lane on my way to work today. Traffic is so backed up by kylemore luas line to bluebell D12 that I sometimes use it only in the last couple months.

I got pulled over today by a motor bike garda. He took details etc and said a fine would be out in the post. When I asked how much he said all the details would be in the letter.

Does anyone know how much it is? I'm so mad I got caught as I'm sure ppl get it away with for a lot longer.

    Thanks

Fixed charge €60, rising to €90 after 28 days.

If you're sick of sitting in traffic, maybe consider legal ways or avoiding it instead of playing the "poor me" card?

Not least the fact that you're queueing along a busy road every morning while multiple LUAS trams fly past you. Not very good at picking up cues are you?

hey no need for the smart answer I wasn't looking for sympathy!! Just the price of the fine and I was explaining my situation.

I would take the luas if the boarding stop was close enough to where I live but I would need park and ride so would end up taking longer and more costly!

Are you suggesting to the get the Luas or Public Transport? Not condoning the behavior, it infuriates me and I don't do it, but given the chances of getting caught are pretty slim, at €60 for the fine (And no points) and €5.50 for a return ticket for 5+ stages on the Luas, unless you were caught every week, its actually cheaper to use the bus lane and get caught even twice-ish a month (Ignoring all other costs of course)

Fines for this should be astronomical in my opinion as €60 is actually a joke. Probably costs more in paperwork and Garda time to pull the person for those 10 mins or so.

Driving the car isn't free so the direct cost isn't public transport cost vs fine cost.

I know. Hence why I said all other things neglected. However, if you are paying for the car anyway, €60 is still a very low fine. That was point.

A monthly tax saver is somewhere around €45 net. About as much as you'd probably spend on petrol a week.

Tax Saver, to my understanding, only makes sense if you travel 52 weeks of the year. I'd often be out of the country, like many people, for long periods of time and hence the saving is non-existent.

Anyway, it was more to highlight that €60 versus the crime is pittance. The fine should be higher, same for hatched markings.

Oh also just curious while i was pulled in another car was waived to pull in. He stopped in the bus lane parallel to me spoke to garda for two mins and all i heard the guy say is thanks a mil and he drove off.

It wasn't a marked taxi so just wondering what reason could it be that he was waived on?

That you were caught first and he wasn't.

Don't feel the need to justify yourself, feel you man.

Granted I've no feasible public transport options for my commute anymore, having spent my college years, and early working years doing Dublin Bus from Swords to city centre and back, you couldn't ****ing pay me to take a bus every again.

Some of us enjoy having our own space, and the comfort of our own vehicle ;)

I know the road you are talking about, I've never taken the cheeky slip up the bus lane though.

Tax saver isn't all its cracked up to be. Took one out for a year whilst working in city centre. It's a 12 month contract and it ended up only being a few euro cheaper then a private bus service that went on stream, so ditched it as soon as I could.
