    Hi two weeks ago my wife's car broke down , called breakdown assist and they came out . He took sledge hammer from van and beat the fuel tank car started and cut out . He informed me it was the fuel pump , asked could they repair and he said yes . Collected car last Friday Eve and paid drove car home and it wasn't right . Broke down again Saturday morn they came out again and this time he said it was oil spark plugs and charged me again Monday evening . Tonight car won't start and banging noise from engine , where do I stand .

    as soon as you mentioned sledge hammer, I just got visions of FR.Ted and the episode where one of the priests is just pulling and chucking at stuff: "COWBOYS TED!! FECKIN' COWBOYS!" and "SHODDY SHODDY WORKMANSHIP!"

    now, in response to your post, not really sure where you stand. he could easily say there was damage there before he started, and that it has nothing to do with him.
    is there an NCT on it? how long do you have it?
    has it been serviced lately or anything?

    You really dont have a leg to stand on here. Assuming its an olderish car, multiple things could be going wrong at the same time and if youre not a mechanic and you dont have a mechanic you can trust, youre at the mercy of whatever he says.



    Post this over on the motor forum as well. Guys over there lot more experience with this kind of thing.

    Please don't tell someone to post a duplicate version of the thread. That causes clean up for the moderators. Instead, please use the Report Post function to let a moderator know that the thread should be moved.

    I don't see what you can do OP.
    My dad told me when I left home that I would need a trusted mechanic, electrician and plumber to have an easy life.
    I got the former, can do the second myself and never found the third.

    I meant on the mechanical end of the post to get to the bottom of the issue with the car, rather than the consumer end of whether he was being ripped off.

    I take your point though.
