Desmond May Sell Express to Trinity Mirror

    Richard Desmond owns Northern & Shell. Northern & Shell publish the Daily Express, Sunday Express, The Daily Star, The Star on Sunday and own 50% of Independent Star. Independent Star publish the Irish Daily Star.

    Northern & Shell are looking to offload some of their assets. It has been speculated that this includes the Daily Express and Sunday Express. Trinity Mirror have expressed an interest. A deal might include the Daily Star.

    Large pension liabilities, Desmond's demand for a big payment and regulatory concerns might inhibit a deal.

    Interesting to see what any new owner does with the stake in the Irish Daily Star and if they continue Irish distribution of the Express titles.

    If the memory is correct - both sides of that agreement in the Irish Daily Star have first option of 100% if the other side is sold on or gets new owners.
    (I think....)
