Both adverts belong in the dreamer's thread. No bargains there.

Honestly, does one have to even ask?

There is a guy on gumtree who regularly puts up cars such as A4 etc asking 4k for a 10 reg pure scam.

Gumtree is a breeding ground fir fraud bsr the odd sofa or tv..
Be very careful of cars in this site they are a scam or the scrap wouldn't take them..
I advertised a couple of times abd never again

Donedeal is dull of dodgy dealers but a lot of decent people

Carzone seems to have the least amount of messers

I recently asked a lady would she like me to push her Citroen as she couldn't get in t started. It was a 10D. What does that tell you about them? They have never had the greatest reputation for reliability so if you want something good, maybe a Fiesta or a Yaris or a Corsa. You might have to go back a few years but your paying for reliability.

    You appear to be lost.

That DS3 ad is precisely the reason I don't use Gumtree for buying anythng, let alone a car.

Perhaps she just left a light on and ran down the battery. What has that got to do with reliability?

Garage car dealers are the shady ones.

I purchased a mitsubishi colt from gumtree around 5 years ago for €700 and to this day I only had to service it once a year while getting very minor things fixed with it and its still running great.

It's like anywhere though, you can be lucky and unlucky, just have to bring a mechanic with you always when looking at a car in a private sale.

My mechanic was all over it like the revenue, checking everything. It's best practice to always bring a mechanic with you on the purchase of any car as it can save you a lot of cash in the long-run. ;)

5 years from a battery is fairly good considering it was most likely a diesel bought for the cheap motor tax not the 10 minute commute in traffic.

Apart from the first line I agree with you.

Treat every purchase the same no matter if it's private or dealer. There's more good dealers/private sellers than bad unfortunately there are more bad purchasers than good, which is why the bad sellers exist. No matter what the price of the car always bring someone who knows more than you with you.
