This may be a stupid question, but what do you do with sceach bushes encroaching into the field?

If you cut them at the bottom will they coppice and get worse?

Hawthorn, cut, paint stump with brushwood killer, spray any regrowth with same chemical.

Whitethorn not blackthorn. "Draigheann" is blackthorn. I know that much, as little Gaeilge as I do know.

Whitethorn not likely to spread out from a hedge. Blackthorn is a disaster for it. As posted above, scrub killer.

Its blackthorn I think. We always referred to them as sceachs. I didn't know that about treating the stumps. A job for the long evenings!

Spray them with Grazon 90, that should get rid of them

Would prefer to minimise the chemical use. Painting the stumps sounds better for us.
